TLC's Skullbone Plains, part of our Five Rivers Reserve, was the perfect location to host the #Tasmania SES Search & Rescue South Team's #winter #training. With its challenging #weather & broad range of environments, the team were able to test their skills in a range of scenarios.

This month, we are sadly saying goodbye to one of our #conservation program #ecologists, Tilly. She has had a considerable impact on #privatelandconservation in #Tasmania, helping to protect over 1,400 hectares of habitat in perpetuity through conservation covenants.

#Welcome Brenda & Rob to our #LandforWildlife program! The property 'was like a broom plantation' when they first took it on. Broom plants are an invasive shrub, a declared weed under Tas Biosecurity Act 2019. After yrs of mgmt, it is hard to believe that it was anything other than healthy #forest.

Our Five Rivers Reserve is a #winter wonderland! Our Reserves team are truly braving the elements this season while working in the field. Five Rivers Reserve is located within the central highlands of #Tasmania and often experiences a few good dumps of #snow in winter.

The impact of #fallowdeer on our reserves is evident. In Feb, Claire Foster, from ANU Fenner School, assessed vege & soil at Five Rivers Reserve long-term exclosure plots to understand how herbivores affect these #ecosystems & how controlling deer may assist veg recovery.

🔈 to hear the sweet melody of nature recovering after 🔥 at our Piano Coves Reserve. In early 12/2025, #bushfires burned across much of our Reserve. Recovery will take time, but this is a fire-adapted enviro, & vege will continue #regenerating as natural processes unfold.

Recently, a #WildTracker fauna camera on one of our #MidlandsConservationPartnership properties helped unravel an unexpected mystery. When retrieving survey cameras, our #ecologist noticed one had been removed from its star picket — no easy feat given the secure strap and knot used.

Have you ever seen a #lyrebird on your camera trap? Lyrebirds aren’t native to #Tasmania, they were introduced to protect the species from mainland threats. This new paper documents outlier records of Lyrebirds. These sightings could represent either an expanding front, or 1 just passing through.
