This is not the end of this sentence, but I thought the opening screen reading "The new trend in parenting, giving up" was a fine start.
A screengrab from a Wall Street journal video titled "why these moms are saying enough to high expectations." A speaker is talking, and the subtitle says "the new trend in parenting, giving up"

Really enjoyed GAME CHANGER's season 8 finale, but it goes in a sour direction, with the performers and judges griping about the long shoot day, and pushing to wrap and go home. So it is BONKERS to find out, via Variety, about all the extra business the show had planned: variety.com/2026/tv/news...
A quote from Sam Reich in a Variety article about Game Changer's season 8 finale: "There were game mechanics that we had to abandon because the day was immediately running so long and the biggest game mechanic that we had to abandon was mini games that were going to happen in between rounds and those mini games were going to be all players squaring off in the same talent,” Reich says. “For instance, we were going to reach the end of round one and then the players were going to go heads up on beatboxing or heads up on best Scottish accent or heads up on runway walk — which Oscar did do for us later in the episode — and we were quickly running so, so long that was not possible. Winners of those games were going to get a ‘one free death’ or ‘resurrection’ certificate. Our thinking was they could use them on themselves or they could unselfishly use them on someone else, which might also create a funny dynamic.”

Wild story about someone either using a fast-food drive-in's AI order-bot to do their math homework, or to make a funny social video. Or both. Can this actually be true? I hadn't heard about AI order-bots before, and it seems hard to believe they're this multipurpose and not single-function.

A comment on the bird feeder posts led me to Rosemary Mosco's webcomics, and I am enjoying them so much. rosemarymosco.com/comics/bird-...
A six-paneled comic labeled "wildlife tracking tips."
Panel 1, deer tracks labeled "A white-tailed deer traveled through here."
Panel 2, squirrel tracks, "An American red squirrel came by."
Panel 3, hare tracks, "A snowshoe hare passed through."
Panel 4, same tracks with a line next to them. "The snowshoe hair found a sword."
Panel 5, same tracks, two lines. "The snowshoe hare is dual-wielding."
Panel 6, tracks and lines end next to deer tracks. "The snowshoe hare tamed a mount, vastly increasing its jumping distance. You should run."

Weirdly, it wasn't curiosity or general acclaim that got me to go see COYOTE VS. ACME. It was the Reddit AMA. The weird, wry, but completely straight-faced sense of humor here got to me, and finally sold me on who the movie was aimed at. www.reddit.com/r/movies/com...

I took the dialect quiz people have been talking about here, and can we please just talk about this answer specifically
A question from a "where is your dialect from" quiz, asking what you call "the insect that flies around in the summer and has a rear section that glows in the dark." Answers include lightning bug, firefly, either interchangably, "I have no word for this" and "other." One response, "peenie wallie," is circled in red.

Rewatched 9 TO 5 on Tuesday night just to spend a little more time with Dolly Parton. I'd forgotten about the joyously demented fantasy sequences. It's midway between very much of its era and still highly relevant, but mostly it's a showpiece for the stars, particularly Dolly in her first film role.

Another hard hit to take. Yes, the music was wonderful and I loved her in movies as a kid. But the older I got, the more I appreciated what a smart, frank, no-nonsense advocate she was for women's rights, self-determination in any form, and plain old kindness to others. What a legend.
