Tom @taschoene.bsky.social · 5mMy wife got some cashmere sweaters from them that she says are excellent value. A couple of other things that were weirdly sized. Quality seems good. 110

Tom @taschoene.bsky.social · 2hYou think DoJ would prosecute? The question is whether there is an equivalent state law. 3110
Tom @taschoene.bsky.social · 3hYeah, 19 USC 592 would like a word. www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/...law.cornell.edu18 U.S. Code § 592 - Troops at polls 010
Tom @taschoene.bsky.social · 4hIt's almost 90°F in Washington DC. Tomorrow will be 25 degrees colder. Make it make sense! 000
Tom @taschoene.bsky.social · 6hShould have been Rubio making that phone call, TBH. She theoretically worked for him, after all. 010
Tom @taschoene.bsky.social · 20hOne of the best food surprises I had in France was that omelet is a dinner food, and served in basically every little bistro. 000
Tom @taschoene.bsky.social · 23hJesus I thought I'd blocked her already. Did she make a new sock? 040
Tom @taschoene.bsky.social · 23hYou are definitely not the usual buyer. Nor am I, since I buy almost entirely on word of mouth or reviews these days. The impulse buy market is still strong, though. Look at @scalzi.com's sales of Starter Villain. That cover absolutely sold a bunch of copies. 140
Tom @taschoene.bsky.social · 13/10/2026All day breakfast is the best invention since food. Some days you just want a waffle at 4 pm. 160
Tom @taschoene.bsky.social · 13/10/2026Broke my hand in college (boxer's break), but also thought it was just a bad bruise. Got to class the next morning, laid my hand on my notebook and was in so much pain I couldn't even write. At the clinic, all the doctor said was "so, how does the other guy look?" 040
Tom @taschoene.bsky.social · 13/10/2026Just having insurance knocks a zero off of that, maybe two. Which tells you something about the real costs. I had prostate cancer treatment -- MRIs, radiation, MRIs, and minor surgery. Billed @ around $100k, but my cost capped at $5k because I have very good insurance. Everyone should have that. 120
Tom @taschoene.bsky.social · 13/10/2026Interestingly, at least one of our local ambulance services doesn't actually make a serious effort to collect from patients. They take the insurance payment, send a couple of bills, then just drop it if they aren't paid. No credit hit, nothing. 120
Tom @taschoene.bsky.social · 13/10/2026It takes a deep knowledge of old and middle English to understand Bilbo's taunting of the spiders in Mirkwood. "Lazy lob. Crazy cob. Attercop" are all words for "spider" in various more or less archaic versions of English 020
Tom @taschoene.bsky.social · 12/10/2026Don't imagine anyone seriously thought grocery store systems were going to be a valid hybrid war target. But here we are. 100
Tom @taschoene.bsky.social · 12/10/2026I thought this was going to be like when Time Magazine's "Man of the Year" was "You" and they just printed a mirror on the cover. 100
Tom @taschoene.bsky.social · 12/10/2026Have you considered just building new buildings and waiting a few hundred years so they fall into ruins all on their own? 110

Tom @taschoene.bsky.social · 12/10/2026Oh, look. It's the presumption of regularity, utterly destroyed by the Trump DoJ. 0361

Tom @taschoene.bsky.social · 12/10/2026I was so impressed by his choice to walk away from football because he valued his mind over the money that career would bring. Glad to see he is thriving in academia. 020
Tom @taschoene.bsky.social · 11/10/2026Sadly, the chart is being misrepresented or misunderstood. It's a measure of Yandex's automated requests (not Russian bots). Most of this will be search bot (spider) activity, since Yandex is a search engine. With the servers wrecked, wthere are way fewer search bots. bsky.app/profile/anti... 110

Tom @taschoene.bsky.social · 11/10/2026Ukraine says it has no information about this. This is just Trump saying whatever random thing that comes intro his head and demanding that the Ukranians obey it (no such expectation on the Russians). 130
Tom @taschoene.bsky.social · 11/10/2026Looks like a v. early version of NASA's Manned Orbital Research Laboratory. Max three Gemini capsules and the crew have to spacewalk to get from capsule to the lab. Funny to see how terrestrial it looks, including the console TV in the living space and crew wearing office clothes. 010
