My husband and I got together with my father and nephew the other day and carved these glorious jack-o-lanterns. 🎃

American Nightmare

More blood shed, more children dead
Faces wet with despair cry out
We never thought this could happen here
That false sense of security at no time in doubt

Grim-faced authorities search for motives
Communities mourn by candlelight
Politicians play their broken record
While we channel our rage which burns so bright

Nobody should have to go through this
A phrase oft-echoed throughout the nation
Yet states for centuries labeled united
Ignore this home-grown situation

More blood will be shed, a guaranteed dread
Tormenting headlines never missing a beat
Lives are dispensable, while guns worth protecting
An irrational cycle forever set on repeat
