“Do you think that I would have offered to buy your dad a condo if that was the case?” Alexander asked, getting more amused as the conversation went on. Benson was too cute, and too innocent. I really like the way I write spicy scenes. I love coming up with characters and then putting them In Situations, too. I think I do a pretty good job of balancing realistic things and book things to make my contemporary romances believable but not boring!

Hockey is played in periods, not quarters so we're sharing a #WIPSnips from Caught Offsides that includes a bit of dialogue between teammates during a game.

Charlie couldn’t argue with that. He patted Benson’s shoulder. “Just calm down, kid.”
Benson huffed a ragged sigh and flopped down on the bench, still frustrated. “Fuck these guys.”
“The Rockets?”
“Yeah,” Benson agreed. “They’re pissing me off.”
Charlie laughed and ruffled Benson’s helmet. “You’re definitely one of us now,” he teased. “Welcome to the team.”
Benson laughed and cast a sidelong glance down the bench to where Alexander had ended up. They’d had their line messed up on a delayed change and Ortega was mixing lines again, trying to get the team fired up. They were in the second period and it was getting annoying that no one had scored, and that they weren’t getting penalties called. Alexander must have sensed his gaze and he looked up and flashed Benson a smile. Benson’s heart skipped a beat, Alexander seemed like he was mostly back from whatever had been bothering him before, and he smiled back.
He was going to get a goal tonight if it killed him.

Alexander was sitting on the bench, watching him skate.

Fuck. Benson swore inwardly. He didn’t like that. He had hoped he would have been able to get out of the rink before Alexander had even seen him. And now he had to face the music. He took his headphones off and forced a smile.

“Good morning,” Benson said quietly as he reached for his water bottle.

“Hey,” Alexander said. “Are you okay?”
“I’m great,” Benson lied. “Why wouldn’t I be?”

Alexander tilted his head slightly, giving Benson a pointed look that was equally worried and chastising. “You didn’t seem okay last night, I wanted to apologize for making you uncomfortable.”

“Oh, you didn’t,” Benson said, feeling heat crawling up the back of his neck. “You were great. I really appreciate the ride home and everything. Sorry I was weird.”

“Benson,” Alexander said gently. Benson tried to suppress a shudder at the way his name sounded; intimate and soft and like there was so much more behind those two syllables.

I wanted to introduce Alexander from Caught Offsides today. So I have a snippet. Benson meets him for the first time in the locker room as they're getting ready to practice. Benson has just been called up from juniors. #AwesomeCharacters

Benson’s heart stopped. Alexander DuBois was the most gorgeous man he’d ever seen in his life. Charlie was attractive, with his dark hair and eyes, his close-cropped beard, and his chiseled jaw, but there was just something about DuBois that was undeniably handsome. He had dusty brown hair that he wore short, but not buzzed down like the Slavs, and icy blue eyes that felt like they were boring into Benson’s soul. He was so much more attractive in person and Benson hadn’t been expecting his mouth to be that dry.

“Tabarnak, I didn’t think he was gonna be here already!” Alexander said with a laugh. His thin lips quirked up on one side when he smiled, and the scar on his chin cut through the stubble making him seem extra rugged. He looked like he had spent time working outdoors, even though he came from a prominent hockey family.

Benson stood quickly to introduce himself, wiping his hands on his jeans before offering to shake DuBois’ hand. “Hi…”

Alexander took his hand and leaned in close, his husky voice dropping as he switched to French. “You don’t need to be shy, everyone here is on your side. I’m really happy to meet you, too. If anyone gives you trouble, just tell me. I got your back.”

Alexander passed the puck just before getting checked into the boards and Benson winced, he knew it was the plan, to let the others take on a few hits, but it still made his stomach churn to watch. He raced up the ice, he wasn’t sure if his feet were moving faster than the hammering of his heart, but everything was a blur. He didn’t know that the goal went into the net until his teammates were smushing him into the boards in a crushing hug.

“You did it! Benson! You did it!” Alexander was yelling in his ear, his breath hot on the side of Benson’s face.

Benson was grinning he knew that much. “I what??”

“You scored you big idiot!” Alexander shouted, laughing. “Come on, we have to go high five the rest of the bench!”

Benson followed along behind Alexander, still a little shocked that he’d actually gotten a goal. The reality of the situation hadn’t quite sunk in yet until he was being pulled over the boards by Charlie and Aiden and his helmet was nearly knocked off with the enthusiasm with which they were pounding on his shoulders and his helmet.
