Sunset clouds over Chicago on Friday night, as the wildfire smoke finally started to break up
A towering cumulonimbus cloud glows with orange and pink light from the setting sun, rising dramatically behind the rooftops of houses. Brown-shingled roofs and chimneys sit in the foreground, with a few power lines stretching across the sky. The vivid, warm illumination highlights the cloud’s height and texture against the otherwise calm evening sky.

#137 Scene of the Crime 🔍 A 1993 late‑era #ChooseYourOwnAdventure. The series was well past its peak and the endings were shrinking, but this one still works better than most from that period. Poor Frank never stood a chance.

Because Packard wasn’t involved in Chooseco’s 2003 revival, his interactive book couldn’t carry the CYOA branding. The original title, Journey to the Year 3000, was off‑limits, so it became Journey 3000, one of just two Super Adventure releases. The subseries was hard; 1 good ending per book.
A vintage-style sci‑fi book cover titled “Journey to the Year 3000” by Edward Packard. A giant bald figure in dark clothing looms over a group of people in futuristic outfits. Behind them, a swirling planet, a spaceship, and large insect-like creatures fill the cosmic background. A yellow burst on the corner advertises “Bigger adventure! More challenging choices! More thrilling dangers!”

From my #ViewMaster collection: a 1977 “Special Subject” reel featuring the Harlem Globetrotters. Unfortunately like many View‑Master reels from this era, the film has developed the notorious red‑tint shift as the stock breaks down, but it’s still a fantastic little time capsule.
