Fun thing we learned when printing out a copy of the petition to give to CEO Bernadette Meehan @ Wikimania: #MediaWiki's PDF renderer breaks on ordered list items past 1,000. I pointed this out to her when we handed her the petition. She didn't immediately see […] [Original post on wikis.world]

Your #Wikipedia donations at work. The #WikimediaFoundation asks for your money to keep the lights on, & then spends it on notorious union-busting law firm Jones Day so its board members can recite generic anti-union rhetoric to justify ignoring supermajority […] [Original post on wikis.world]
Screenshot of a comment on Wikimedia Meta-Wiki (link in reply). Text is as follows:

Response from the Board of Trustees
The Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees has heard the calls from community members regarding voluntary union recognition at the Wikimedia Foundation. We want to acknowledge the care and commitment to movement values behind these calls.

The Board does not manage the Foundation's day-to-day work, including employment decisions. Our role is to provide oversight and long-term direction.

We support the Foundation's decision to ask for a secret-ballot vote. This is not a rejection of a union. It is a commitment to ensuring that every eligible staff member can make their own decision freely, privately, and democratically. Some staff have expressed concern about feeling pressured to support the union, and that makes a fair, private process especially important. Everyone deserves the right to express their views without pressure or intimidation from anyone. Foundation leadership has a responsibility to protect the rights of all staff, regardless of a staff member's views on unionization. A secret ballot is the fairest way to ensure every employee has a choice in this decision. Everyone having a voice reflects Wikimedia values, and we would hope that all the members of the Wikimedia communities share this view. - LLosa (WMF) (talk) 20:49, 30 July 2026 (UTC)

This is the only time I've ever done this, but I actually had to stop and take a picture of the board, and then of @V looking very happy, and say "Sorry, I needed to get a before photo". (with apologies to www.youtube.com/watch?v=6QuD7UO-ZY0) #gingham #boardgames
Photo of a game of Gingham. I've annotated it with the number "41" and an arrow pointing to V; my score tracker is visible at 32.The "before" photo: V looking cute and pleased with herself about passing 40 (the score that makes this the final round).Updated board state; my score tracker has increased to 66. I've placed an ant to move my cherry stockpile 6 spaces, and then a second ant (bumping one of V's) to move my cake stockpile 14 spaces and move V's cherry stockpile 14 spaces, bumping her topper. The "after" photo: V looking cute, astonished, and bewildered.

@V Like it seems a little broken that, in a game played to 40, I was able to score 25 points across 2 rounds in what felt like midgame. (Actually should have been a bit more. Move 2A is missing in this because I didn't realize I was about to win and wasted it on […] [Original post on wikis.world]

Game 3, vs. @V & Julera. In this game we learned that you can win in a decisive and very unfun way if you play hardball while your opponents play nice. Honestly that's the first thing about this game that I could criticize as a matter of game design; I don't like […] [Original post on wikis.world]

Game 2 with @V, this time not the Dog-Safe Variant. I like when you can gauge from a photo of a game's end-state how hard-fought it was. Game 1 was, I'm told, less gentle than usual for Gingham. Game 2 blew that out of the water, mixing all the brutal complexity […] [Original post on wikis.world]

Some intersections have black discs or stacks of discs with icons of sweets on them, some surmounted with green or pink discs of the same nature; others have white cubes representing sugar. Pronoun

(colloquial, in the plural) You.
Hey you guys!Screenshot of a Wiktionary entry:

Etymology 1
Coined by semantic widening from the name of Guy Fawkes (1570–1606), an English Catholic executed for his role in the Gunpowder Plot, which also came to refer to effigies of his image burned annually on Guy Fawkes Night. The name Guy is from Old French Gui, from a Frankish form of Proto-West Germanic *Widō (compare Old Dutch Wido), a short form of names beginning with the element *widu (“wood”), from Proto-Germanic *widuz. Cognate with Italian Guido. Doublet of guido.

Noun
guy (plural guys)

Thank you, unsourced paragraph in an economics article on Wikipedia, for explaining that whether someone will want less money now or more money later depends on whether they want less money now or more money later.
Screenshot of text. The final clause of the third sentence is highlighted:

A practical example: Jim and Bob go out for a drink but Jim has no money so Bob lends Jim $10. The next day Jim visits Bob and says, "Bob, you can have $10 now, or I will give you $15 when I get paid at the end of the month." Bob's time preference will change depending on his trust in Jim, whether he needs the money now, or if he thinks he can wait; or if he'd prefer to have $15 at the end of the month rather than $10 now. Present and expected needs, present and expected income affect one's time preference.
