Reading 100 years old scientific articles is a truly unique experience. The following quote (in German, and translated to English) is taken from "Zur Theorie der Elektrolyte. I. Gefrierpunktserniedrigung und verwandte Erscheinungen", one of the most fundamental texts in modern chemistry:
