It was different on small screens which necessarily limited the scope of puzzles and environment. When being designed for a TV as well, and then just shrunk down to this thing in your hands at the same proportions, it just can't be 1:1 with old "bitesize" design imo. Medium is the message, etc.

Very true!! I was literally thinking about how the Shrines in BOTW almost felt like them trying to provide for this - but playing the game, a lot of those shrines are just complex as is, let alone somewhere like on a bus or train where you're not gonna be able to focus as well 🙃

Don't even get me started but even the design philosophy of Pick Up and Play handheld games is just DIFFERENT to console games. Like yeah the switch is handheld; but BOTW or Three Houses as handheld games you'd play in a car, or waiting room or etc? Awful way to experience them tbh.
