Because the world needed a fusion AU of Persona and The Amazing Digital Circus, I bring you a tale of The Amazing Cognitive Circus: “At Spuds, We’re Buds!” or, “I Write Sins, Not Abstragedies.” Page 1

Got a fabulous commission from @rainynoise.bsky.social for my TADC/Persona mashup fic, The Amazing Cognitive Circus, of Abigail Brooks summoning her Persona, Pomni! A few people are prereading the first two chapters before I put it up on Ao3 and SV.

Abigail Brooks - a short woman with pale skin and long dark hair in business casual, with a rapier on her hip and brandishing both a revolver and a Fool tarot card - turns to looks at the viewer as the card shines with blue fire.

Working on The Amazing Cognitive Circus, my TADC/Persona mashup fic, and illustrating some scenes. Here, Abigail Brooks - trapped in the Circus and in further over her head than CAINE can extricate her from - she makes an unlikely alliance with her own dark side. That’s right, her Shadow, XDDCC.

Abigail, pinned down and wounded in the Circus after having gunned down a Jack Frost, looks up at a doll-like, Geno From SMRPG-ass jester firing full auto out of her fingerguns and attached by strings to Abby like she’s the doll’s marionette. In the background, CAINE blasts lightning at other foes with the incantation “ZIO!”

“‘Who am I?’” Abigail’s Shadow asks, incredulous. “Ahahahaha! My dear Abigail… Разве ты не помнишь?”

Presenting a pass at the first real boss of The Amazing Cognitive Circus, Riley Verselis’s Shadow - the Abstract Mananaggal.

Zooble’s triangular head reversed, ‘enhanced’ with uncanny human lips, floats up above CAINE, Abigail, and Riley, trailing a realistic if bloodless pile of human organs, the intestine unspooling from within it’s last tether to Zooble’s beanlike body, now sprouting an Abstracted psychedelic eyeball where the polka dots were. On cords of veins and nerves, the Abstract Shadow of Riley Verselis brandishes weapons: a chainsaw, a gun arm, a shield where the nerves and veins attach like a leprous mycelium, a cartoon glove hand with a sword, crab claws.

“We’re not a barista,” the Abstract Mananaggal hisses. “We’re not a carpenter,
not a cook or tattoo artist or a clerk or a wife, not a man or a woman - WHAT ARE WE, RILEY?!”

“My friend,” Abigail answers.

Caine levels a crackling staff in the backgroind, ready to spam Zio like it’s going out of style: Abigail Brooks, rapier in hand, stands tall with a supportive hand on the shoulder of a knock-kneed Riley Verselus gathering their courage and brandishing a meat cleaver. Abigail’s Persona, Pomni, grins fangs, giving Riley a thumbs up and levelling 45 caliber fingerguns at the shadow.

“And a rock for Zoey,” Riley adds.

“H(moist splat) yeah,” Pomni whoops. “F(mooing)k em up, Riley!”

A display shows Abstract Mananaggal is strong to fire and force, but weak to ice, wind, and darkness.

it's makeaterriblecomicday.com and I’ve been working on my weird queer story about a lesbian couple who met through - and had an eggshell cracked by - the TADC fandom. I debated whether or not to have it as a Wonders of Mundus sidestory - came down on yes for similar themes to TADC. Good times.

this is by far the strangest story I’ve ever done but I just got inspired by tadc 9 to write a story about the way that fandom and stories connect people. Put up the first chapter on my Patreon, but I intend to make it a free webcomic and let it out of paywall jail once I have a backlog.

I just put in a chapter of The Wonders of Mundus: Book 3 for prereading that made me cry to write and that means I get to share this illustration from it from @darkchibishadow.bsky.social of Ace in Erandite clothing performing The Threshing on Deedee. What does that mean? Questers will know soon.

He turns, to regard the terrified Calice, then walks over to her and offers a hand up. Confused, she takes it, and rises to her feet.

This time, I can clearly see exactly what Ralph does... well, from third person perspective, anyway... to access someone else's character sheet: he clicks the sendjewel stud on Calice's ear three times, and on the third one, also presses into a particular point on the back of her neck.

Her character sheet unscrolls out of thin air, a panel of light suspended horizontally in front of Ralph's eye, off to the side.

Radulf Kintsugi looks her in the eye, and proclaims:

"In the name of Gnomon, Who Knows All That Is Written, for crimes against all of Mundus and her Kithain, I strip you of Enthusement." He flicks a drop-down menu on her sheet set to Elite and sets that to Flunky/Noncom. "And may your heavy heart yet be lighter than a feather ere you die."

Siobhan does a little gesture I've seen her and other Thornites do before: pressing two fingers crossed over each other into her heart – sort of the Thornite version of crossing yourself, I guess.

I never actually used this guy by @rukachorus.itch.io in the novels? In the one-shot he was a Malevolent Entity build, a small-g griefer playing a Warlock who would make his going Berzerk and under his goetic shadow’s thrall the party’s problem. Gerard Morningstar in book 3 was loosely inspired.
