Our @inthedarkradio.bsky.social event with @taliaaugustidis.bsky.social in Philly over the weekend was very lovely and life-affirming. There are few things better than people gathered together listening to audio stories. Thanks to @firemuseumpresents.bsky.social for co-hosting.

Can't wait for this! The world is pretty bleak at the moment, so it's been a particular joy choosing silly, funny, moving audio pieces for this show.

“[Lights Out: Dead Ends] elevated the format to art…” Great to see this nod to @taliaaugustidis.bsky.social’s BBC Radio 4 Lights Out in the @financialtimes.com favourites of the year post! www.ft.com/content/7849...
Text reads, “Manuela Saragosa, executive producer, FT audio

OK this is totally random (not just ‘quite random’!) but in this multimedia world can I recommend an audio essay which elevated the format to art and was produced and reported by an award-winning freelance audio journalist who’s also done work for the FT, Talia Augustidis: Lights Out (BBC Sounds)

It was made for a Radio 4 series, which has sadly been discontinued this year amid wider BBC cuts.

Against a backdrop of a forest carpeted with bluebells, a block of text reads, “After 12 years on the radio, we’re sad to share the news that BBC Radio 4 has chosen to end Short Cuts.

The episode on 7th January 2025 will be our last on their airwaves.

We are proud of this audio garden, and what has grown here over the years.”
