i've lately been unfortunately addicted to reading astonishingly bad romantasy novels and 1) i cannot believe the glowing goodreads reviews on some of these; 2) the bad reviews that compare them to fanfic, like PLEASE you have no idea how good fanfiction can be compared to some of this garbage

Olivia likes to work over the holidays. The city is quiet, and when the wind whips up any snowflakes that fall, it almost feels magical — until a call brings her back to earth.
She’s been at the one-six for a week when Elliot asks about her plans for Christmas. It’s small talk in the car, not meant to be loaded.
“Oh, I’m not—”
“Sorry.” He glances over, apologetic. “Shouldn’t have assumed.”
“It’s not that. I just… don’t have plans. I told Cragen I’ll take the call shift.”
“He was givin’ it to ya anyway.”
Olivia grins. It’s easy with him.
