was in stockport this morning & saw this cool mosaic made out of bottle caps this isn't even the full thing, there's a bit in the middle with a badger on it. you'll have to go to stockport to see that

Blackpool is a place where Mario's and Pizza Luigi exist across the road from each other

"Mario's" partially obscured by a bus stop. The sign has an AI-looking cartoon depiction of Mario in a chef's outfit on each side, holding a burger on one side and a pizza on the other, with photos of food superimposed around him.

here are some pics I took on the Monday after my friends had gone & I had a couple hours to kill before my train. being early on a Monday in October a lot of the tourist stuff was closed or deserted but you could still wander round it

View from outside the arcade at the bottom of the Central Pier down the tram tracks towards Blackpool Tower. A sign on the building is advertising a musical tribute show and a drag show which are very much the two kinds of live entertainment available in Blackpool

Closed fairground ride on the Central Pier decorated with airbrushed depictions of Disney characters making inexplicably Spanish vocalisations like "ñam ñam" and "guau guau". Behind it there are a couple of open stalls with no one around except the operators

another thing blackpool is famous for is the illuminations, light installations that are put out every autumn. it's really cool at night & i wish i'd taken more photos. but you can find 100000 online anyway

on the good side of things I found this 2025 game called Kaiju Rampage that I'd never heard of before, it's by IGS & it has really good Stupid Arcade Energy with goofy voice acted cutscenes and everything. i played a 2P deluxe motion cab and 4p standup version. highly recommend trying if you see it

one thing blackpool is well known for is its arcades, they run the gamut of size and quality from the massive coral island with the latest big name games, multiple restaurants and even rides to run-down places full of stuff like this

"Super 😉 Mario" boxing machine. it is Not licensed. your boxing prowess is measured in terms of various boxers and wrestlers with John Cena at the top. it's labelled in half I think Turkish and half English

alright the rest of this thread is just going to be blackpool posting for the non UK people it's a seaside town that used to be a huge tourist destination and still kind of is but is way past its heyday. i've been there as a kid but this was my first time back as an adult

i didn't take many pictures inside the expo itself cos it was busy & i was busy but they had a lot of cool stuff there. i got to play on a real life super a'can for the first time!!! speedy dragon is.. well it's impressive for an AV Artisan game but unfortunately not that great to play

the hotel even had its own small arcade! many of the machines in there were even working! i won this red panda from a crane machine & my friend won me the handheld it's sitting on from a key master. the pool table had no cues and only like half of the balls

So who was Harry Pursey? Well he was a former MP for East Hull who before that had been a naval officer who began his career as a boy seaman on the HMS Impregnable

Harry Pursey (24 August 1891 – 13 December 1980) was a British politician and naval officer, who began his career as a boy seaman and served as a Member of Parliament for twenty-five years.

He was born in Sidmouth, and educated at the Royal Hospital School (a school for naval orphans) and the Royal Naval College in Greenwich. He joined the Royal Navy in 1907, as a boy seaman with HMS Impregnable.

I just checked, they are 16x16 tiles with 8x16 characters in them yeah, but indented a bit in the space rather than only using the leftmost 8 Which would mean it should be easy for the new loc to use wider characters with simple tile editing but ah well
