Tahoth @tahoth.bsky.social · 06/10/2026But normal boosters arent going down card count, only CBs. Obviously don't know numbers, but surely no way CBs sell anywhere near the quantity of normal boosters. 100
Tahoth @tahoth.bsky.social · 06/10/2026But they aren't removing a card from draft packs to my understanding, just a foil. So they need to add normal sheets to make up for that difference. And then they need the random god pack sheets, so its not like its just a straight reduction on sheets. 000
Tahoth @tahoth.bsky.social · 06/10/2026So maybe "We want to make more money on CBs" is an added bonus, but I feel like it can't be the driving factor for this decision. They could jack MSRP up 10$ and make the stores eat the diff, since nobody is paying anywhere near MSRP on CBs anyway. 000
Tahoth @tahoth.bsky.social · 06/10/2026But to this point, the cost of printing a CB is the same as printing a normal pack. So there is no way removing 3 cards from a CB is increasing their margins meaningfully, and anything that may draw customers away from their highest margin product seems bad? 200
Tahoth @tahoth.bsky.social · 06/10/2026I feel like we've definitely seen a lot more quality control issues, and definitely part of that can probably be pointed to printing processes being pushed to their limits to keep up with release schedules. 100
Tahoth @tahoth.bsky.social · 06/10/2026There is probably some angle of actual quantity of cards vs printer supplier availability, especially with increase in sets, more SLDs, and SLD reruns etc etc. SLD second waves are 9 months out for a reason. But is 3 cards per collector booster really enough to swing a needle on that front? 100
Tahoth @tahoth.bsky.social · 05/10/2026Baton of Morale ends up in a lot of my decks, but its especially fun when I get 2 zombies out of it in my OTJ Gisa crime deck. Its extremely good and relevant! Next time you think "I wish that thing didn't have trample" think instead "I wish I had banding right now" 060
Tahoth @tahoth.bsky.social · 05/10/2026English language, Japanese art. scryfall.com/search?q=is%... 020
Tahoth @tahoth.bsky.social · 05/10/2026Probably small increase in normals because of the random Japan Showcases. Not that they are all Llanowar Elves >200$, but even the cheap ones are still 10x the price, even if its only from 30c -> 3$ 000
Tahoth @tahoth.bsky.social · 05/10/2026They are adding more CB exclusive treatments to play boosters though 110
Tahoth @tahoth.bsky.social · 05/10/2026I feel like a lot of the draw of foils is tied into them being rarer to begin with, so its kind of an upside from that aspect. Certainly not all, but I feel like its probably true for most foil collectors. 010
Tahoth @tahoth.bsky.social · 05/10/2026This is the only place I've seen it, and yeah its gross in there. I feel like its a reflection of dislike of voltron, where double strike matters a lot (an was already 5 mana minimum for colorless access), and a second combat handily addresses the downside of killing 1 by 1. 010
Tahoth @tahoth.bsky.social · 05/10/2026I think the trade off of making the common/uncommons you get actually worth something, because they are now in a premium variant that only exists in CBs is probably worth it. A difference of opening one card worth 60c, vs 3 worth 20. And I think it will probably work out even more favorably $ wise. 110
Tahoth @tahoth.bsky.social · 05/10/2026Booster Pack wise I think getting Japan Showcases is a big upside, those are often some of the most chased cards. We'll have to see how the foil thing plays out. I feel like its probably fine, although if you are chasing the next Slime Against Humanity/Sphinx's Approach in foil, oof. 010
Tahoth @tahoth.bsky.social · 05/10/2026Less foils in my packs is good news to me, I'd be happy to go to 0 in now plain "booster packs" honestly, especially if it means we get Japan Showcases. As someone who doesn't buy them, curious how the cut to cards is gonna play out in CBs. I feel like uncommons were becoming pseudo-rares recently. 000
Tahoth @tahoth.bsky.social · 30/09/2026Yeah, same. The K Pop lair is kinda stacked with cEDH stuff, and the Labyrinth stuff is kinda all over the place in weird ways. Really tired of Jodah too honestly. 020
Tahoth @tahoth.bsky.social · 30/09/2026Art rules, and I do enjoy its just a bunch of weird mini-game stuff so I don't hate Space Beleren. Would have LOVED a Sphinx Ambassador reprint though, I'm building a Sphinx's Approach and thats one pricy card. Its plays perfectly into this deck: sphinx, theft, odd, weird mini-game. A real shame 010
Tahoth @tahoth.bsky.social · 30/09/2026Ah, Shared Fate / Planeswalkers Mischief. You're probably right. Still kind of a wild include. Since its target opp, you can just pick the non-green player. Yavimaya doesn't help with red, the juicy sorc color for Mischief. And you've got orchard, just include a WUBRG land, or even filter land. 010
Tahoth @tahoth.bsky.social · 30/09/2026A couple of questions. Why is Yavimaya in this list? Time Stop and Jace Beleren feel like the weirdest pet card inclusions in a deck that is otherwise all Odd (- rocks, which coulda been 3 drops rocks too imo). Maybe Time Stops "END the turn" hits the Odds and ENDs name, but thats a stretch. 200
Tahoth @tahoth.bsky.social · 29/09/2026I like mine but I'm not super picky either. From what I remember I felt like a lot of weird stuff was going on to enable the optional jacket But I'm also a hater of those kind of big optional pieces even in the best of implementations 001
Tahoth @tahoth.bsky.social · 26/09/2026Agree with most of these, this one I'm not sold on. Only your creatures is a big diff, and black benefits more from the extra mana 110
Tahoth @tahoth.bsky.social · 23/09/2026Its fine. Its got some upgrades that completely break open old courses. It feels REALLY good to get the wall/double jumps, or dash, and go cut an old time in half or more. But fairly early you kinda have the whole moveset until VERY lategame. I could used more steps to really push this idea more. 000
Tahoth @tahoth.bsky.social · 23/09/2026IGTAP: an Incremental Game that's also a Platformer. It is exactly what it say it is. Haven't played a lot of incrementals, but if you put platform on anything I'll give it a whirl 100
Tahoth @tahoth.bsky.social · 22/09/2026Well I would argue the honorable still fight with honor against those who do not. But yes, that's where I think the 3 1v1s make sense, and is an improvement on flavor and a step forward. But that a NEO samurai can fight Jace 1v1 honorably, but new FRA Yuriko can't is the 1 step back. 010
Tahoth @tahoth.bsky.social · 22/09/2026100% agree its an improvement, but I do think its a 2 steps forward 1 step back thing I agree with the flavor, but I think the old way showed it best, a samurai could go into any fight honorably So we traded off some of that flavor for the logical idea of multiple distinct 1v1s and better mechanics 110
Tahoth @tahoth.bsky.social · 22/09/2026Then should they want to make something that can attack all types, its gotta be like "Attacks a player, planeswalker, or battle alone" which is kinda a mouthful. And that gets us into what if they make another attackable? 110
Tahoth @tahoth.bsky.social · 22/09/2026My complaint is mostly 2 parts: Like I feel like it doesn't make a TON of sense that these things can hit players, along with 5 buddies attacking that players planeswalker But they can't hit a planeswalker, with 0 buddies attacking the player. So I don't like the weirdly specific "attacks a player 110

Tahoth @tahoth.bsky.social · 21/09/2026Really should redefine "attacks alone" to be "no other creatures are attacking the same object(?)" Keep the old templating, but let it work when I hit a player, a planeswalker, and a battle. Or in commander. The "Attack a player (not PW) alone" is so misplaced to drop in the planeswalker set. 100
Tahoth @tahoth.bsky.social · 21/09/2026This is preordain and ponder though? Or is there something I'm missing. 110
Tahoth @tahoth.bsky.social · 19/09/2026I've seen the unrelated spin off in the same world, Rune Solder Louie, and played Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth and those both slapped But for some reason the mainline having random names confused me enough I never got into the main series but maybe I should. Quality fantasy anime is a rare breed 010
Tahoth @tahoth.bsky.social · 18/09/2026Lovin this for my Far Fortune, with the Sphinx I've assembled the dream 2-3-4 drop, swing in ping for billions. 020
Tahoth @tahoth.bsky.social · 17/09/2026Commander damage happens, even if they don't lose life, which is why its gotta be Voltron specifically. 010
Tahoth @tahoth.bsky.social · 17/09/2026Honestly shocked they put this on a 2 mana body. Split second eats a huge tax, and for good reason. Definitely seems Hexing Squelcher level, but maybe the 1 toughness means something in a bowmasters world. 070
Tahoth @tahoth.bsky.social · 17/09/2026Split second enjoyers rise up! Great news for my Blue decks that couldn't run V.A.T.S. 000
Tahoth @tahoth.bsky.social · 17/09/2026But In Tams case, I think shes at the awkward power level. In b3-, if the tables seen her WUBRG+T once, they'll make sure to never let it happen again. But I don't think she'll find the home in B4 either, because I don't think she'll be strong enough. She sits in that awkward space between 3+4 000
Tahoth @tahoth.bsky.social · 17/09/2026Voja is built quite a bit (#91 edhrec), but I've never seen one in the wild. Its play pattern is "Kill me or die", so unless you are playing B4 regularly its hard to sit down with. So I think this Tam will be like Voja, probably built as a fun "Oh, let me toss a PW deck together, could be fun" 100
Tahoth @tahoth.bsky.social · 17/09/2026Certainly true about elfball. I don't think most people are sitting down across elfball and particularly excited to play it though. Does that mean we can never have an elfball commander? No, but it probably should be more interesting than say Voja, who I don't think most people think fondly of. 100
Tahoth @tahoth.bsky.social · 17/09/2026I think planeswalkers are generally bad even. But like you say, the table needs to work together to stop them. Never let them stick a single planeswalker. Completely bully them out of the game despite playing a pretty bad commander archtype. Because of this boring WUBRG ability threat. It feels bad 100
Tahoth @tahoth.bsky.social · 17/09/2026The problem is most walkers don't need Prolif 5, most need like 3, some 4. So you stick a single walker. The jace that -5/-0s everything that swings at you maybe. Dihada who makes lifelinking indestructible blockers Then 2 2-3 mana walkers (easy thanks to discount), and activate. You've got ults. 100
Tahoth @tahoth.bsky.social · 17/09/2026Yes the empower cards are cool, as are the cards clearly intended to support it (most of the Way of the). But Tam really doesn't support them, she's not discounting them. Proliferating that jace doesn't really help it. She is not designed around synergy from this set. In the precon it'd be diff. 100
Tahoth @tahoth.bsky.social · 17/09/2026Give her something with legendary enchantments, so she can hit all the "Way of the XXXX" and "Oath of XXXX". Thats crazy good planeswalker support, that heavily plays into some of the very unique and coolest cards of the set based around planeswalkers. 000
Tahoth @tahoth.bsky.social · 17/09/2026Give these people out here starving for WUBRG planeswalker support something cool to work with. Not "Your spells are discounted by 1" and "WUBRG, activate all your PW ults" 100
Tahoth @tahoth.bsky.social · 17/09/2026I don't even care that shes just planeswalker support! I was out here asking for WUBRG Empower Jace supporting Tam. But its just a super uninteresting. Generic discounts static, game ending WUBRG ability are boring! Do something unique! "When you empower jace, put that many counters on another PW" 100
Tahoth @tahoth.bsky.social · 17/09/2026Yes I've talked about how uninspired the other 2 Tams are, glad we agree on that. This is their last chance to print a non-planeswalker Tam commander that ISNT generic UG thing. Instead its *GENERIC WUBRG* thing. Never another planeswalker card in a lifetime? They just got Guff not that long ago. 100
Tahoth @tahoth.bsky.social · 17/09/2026Yeah, I'm glad you found a cool fit. But its not a good reflection of the quality of that card/character standalone. They didn't inspire you to go make a deck. Its a reflection of the worldbuilding of Strixhaven that you built a Quandrix deck, and multiple Quandrix characters can helm it. 000
Tahoth @tahoth.bsky.social · 17/09/2026By count includes "deal 5 damage to a planeswalker" because of Jace tokens. Planeswalkers in draft will be defined by Empower Jace alone, if its even good enough. There are only 6 actual walkers, all mythics. You will almost never see the other ones. The precon is also just Jace, + elspeth. 100
Tahoth @tahoth.bsky.social · 17/09/2026Okay, but it sounds like you built a Quandrix deck first and foremost, not a Tam deck. 100
Tahoth @tahoth.bsky.social · 17/09/2026As in the one that is a much worse version of an effect we have multiple times? 100
