Donated to the city in 1966 but, afaics, sold off & split into flats since 2020. * www.google.com/maps/place/A...
Google Maps photo of The Knowe building in 2020, sans really bad planting.

Well-preserved Thomsonesque villa with Romanesque detailing and tower, 1/2 storeys, broad-eaved shallow- pitched gabled (slated) roofs of various levels, round-arched openings with rusticated arches, shafted mullions. Complex plan, original part roughly L-shaped with open porch; more than doubled in size by (lower)

additions (1855-8) to W and to N and extending E entrance front. Snecked stone-cleaned yellow rubble and ashlar dressings; mainly sash windows (original glazing); stacks mostly with Thomsonesque chimney cans. Tower is a storey higher, square lights below eaves, elaborate metal roof finial. Interior ornament also survives mainly intact. Billiards room added to W circa 1880.

Nice building; nothing a little inappropriate planting of fur trees won't fix.

'if' doing all the heavy lifting there. Presented with a case of maker borked my network, your magical argument is a pretend world in which a realised, evidenced failure does not exist. Your use cases are bollocks: why does it need a clock? will your home automation place a cup to catch the coffee?

Holborn and St Pancras parliamentary constituency carving out the Holy Trinity Church (west side, notch below Regent's Park) because why exactly?
Outline in red of the Holborn and St Pancras parliamentary constituency, a thin portrait rectangle with wiggly sides, north of the Thames, on a light grey background map of the streets and buildings of the locality. They might be divided by their reactions to that state's apartheid and genocide, and then second order reactions to their reactions; no? Rather more than by a Green party resolution? There was space in the cartoon frame to put that elephant in the room.

Meanwhile to come back to @ellabaron.bsky.social's frankly bizarre cartoon, the reason that Jews and Palestinians are not ebonying & ivorying on the piano keyboard is not so much the Green party as it is, variously, Oct 7 and the genocide.

There is no pro-Palestine action which has not been tarred either with the antisemitism tag, or the making Jews feel unsafe tag. None. And you well know this.

A "no true scotsman" fallacy: no show of support for Palestinians is pure enough to preclude "antisemitic latch-ons" and thus no show of support for Palestinians is acceptable.

Face up to the fact that Harris was a compromised and very poor candidate. The fault lies with a consultant-led democratic party machine, not with individuals who cannot bring themselves to vote for rubbish. Until you demand better you're condemned to repeat this pattern.

Healing the Empire: Indian Hospitals in Britain and France during the First World War
Andrew Tait Jarboe

    PMID: 26502664 DOI: 10.1093/tcbh/hwu066

Abstract

Desperate for soldiers to stem the German onrush in late 1914, the British deployed some 135,000 Indian riflemen--known as sepoys--to the trenches of France and Belgium. Between October 1914 and December 1915, these soldiers fought at the battles of Ypres, Festubert, Givenchy, Neuve Chapelle, Second Ypres, and Loos, suffering some 34,252 casualties. This article looks to the experiences of these men at segregated hospitals in France and England from 1914 to 1915. These hospitals served many of the same dual purposes facilitated by hospitals for English soldiers: namely, they sustained the war-making capacity of the Indian battalions. The Indian hospitals also functioned as sites of propaganda, reaffirming the ideologies and racial hierarchies of imperial rule for audiences at home, abroad, and within the hospital wards. But as this article demonstrates, wounded Indian sepoys were rarely, if ever, mere pawns on the imperial chessboard. Hospital authorities were committed to two policies: returning sepoys to the front and protecting White prestige. Sepoys successfully resisted both. In so doing, Indian hospitals became what British hospital administrators hoped they would not: spaces where imperial subjects contested and even reshaped some of the policies and ideologies of imperial rule.

There's an instance of (French) hospital segregation recorded in 'Back of the front in France' (1918, Amy Owen Bradley, American Fund for French Wounded) fwiw. * archive.org/details/back...
We saw one hospital of Senegalese ; there were about two hundred of them, all having had frozen feet. I never saw such black people, and most of them are huge. They say the Germans are very much afraid of them. The French put a few of their own French soldiers in with them, to show that they have the same treatment as the French. The doctor said he had an awful time managing them, as they don't care whether they sleep in bed, or on the floor, also when they are out in the garden, if they feel too hot, they shed their clothes and promenade with nothing on, whereas the bushes are clad in promiscuous shirts and trousers.
