Per the Middle East Studies Association, since October 7, 76 North American academics have been fired for speaking out against the genocide in Palestine. Two-thirds of those people are non-white. 16.5% are Jewish. afi.mesana.org/resource/les...
Retaliation goes far beyond firing. Of 196 recorded incidents of employer retaliation against employees speaking out on Palestine, nearly 40% (76) resulted in termination. Retaliation that does not rise to the level of termination is an even larger phenomenon.
All categories of academic workers are at risk. Of the 162 individuals whose employment status was disclosed, 30% involved non-tenure track faculty or instructors, and 36% were tenured.
People of color are disproportionately affected. Of the 134 cases recorded in the AFI database in which respondents’ identification is known, two-thirds were people of color: 30% SWANA; 10.5% Black; and 27% other POC. Additionally, 16.5% identify as Jewish. More than half of those targeted whose gender is known are women. Such retaliation compounds the abuse of already racist and sexist work environments.

I wonder if kids watching live-streamed shootings will psychologically merge with all those active shooter drills we traumatize them with from kindergarten on. Nothing to worry about probably

If it hadn’t been millennium it could have been something else. But it’s wild how they latch onto one word, graft it into the racial imaginary, and, like a Lacanian quilting point, reorganize policy around it (especially in the British empire but also multiple US presidents and lots of policymakers)

Tad DeLay @taddelay.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
So much of Christian Zionism, restorationism, and end times pivots on speculation on the millennium—generating millions of words, tied to countless deaths over hundreds of years—yet that word millennium comes from a single chapter in Revelation 20. Would be nice if some guy didn’t write that bit

It finishes with the British capture of Jerusalem in December 2017. Allenby immediately proclaims it an occupation of mutual respect for all religious groups. They then ban newspapers from printing the Balfour Declaration

Ilan Pappé argues Oct 7th was an attempt to preempt a genocide Sinwar knew was planned. I’d assumed 1) prisoner exchange had been successful historically and 2) they couldn’t know Biden would encourage genocide, but this expands the picture www.palestinechronicle.com/why-al-aqsa-...

Like the pre-Suez canal overland route between the Red Sea and the Mediterranean wasn’t ideal for commodities. It was largely for people and mail. Gotta get the mail delivered and it helps if you’re doing a lot of racecraft and theology in support of mail

I’m nearing a finished chapter on 19th century British policy toward the Ottomans and Jewish settlement in Palestine. The obsession with getting mail through the region (communication with eastern colonies) leaves me wondering if they ever would have tried Israel if they had internet or phones

I keep come to that idea in Anidjar or JZ Smith where, as non-biological constructs, race and religion are a lot closer the same phenomenon than most imagine. Specially in Smith’s “Religion religions religious” where invention of “world religions” only came after modern race

Tad DeLay @taddelay.bsky.social · 14/09/2026
After years of reading, I still haven’t found any cases or Restorationism or non-Jewish Zionism that doesn’t hinge on race-thinking. The difference seems to be the balance of positive and negative race attributes, and how much theology gets thrown into the mix
100
Tad DeLay @taddelay.bsky.social · 14/09/2026
Reading old Restorationists/non-Jewish Zionists, you get lots of race-thinking. Some race-thinking that zionists today still like (Jews are same people as in the Bible), or controversial characteristics (Jews have more fortitude than Arabs), to the anti-Semitic (Jewish race is good with money)

I don’t mean to do semantics. But the term is reactionaries. They want bad things, not only for others but for themselves. Shave off the recent MAGA stuff and everything else that lead to it is still there

Tad DeLay @taddelay.bsky.social · 12/09/2026
I’m aware white evangelicals are in a category of their own. I have after all written a book on this, and that’s where the open fascism is. But Christianity is broadly a reactionary consciousness, it will one day die out, and until it does it will keep doing what we now call Christian nationalism
120
Tad DeLay @taddelay.bsky.social · 12/09/2026
I don’t really understand the explosion of “white Christian nationalism” as a term. It seems to cover what the left traditionally calls reactionaries, but in such a way as to not to offend *all* Christians, only the bad guys

Not coincidentally, hundreds of years of Protestant race thinking on Jewish “restoration” converts seamlessly into segregationist and anti-communist agendas over the 20th century. Vance is part of a long, violent tradition in that respect

Some bunkers pitch the idea of zoom school for the kids inside, with teachers outside (no thought to how they survive or if they’d still do the job) would log in like normal to teach the scions. You see the basic view they have of workers

During research on doomsday bunkers for Future of Denial, I had a laugh at this rich guy asking “How do I maintain authority over my security force after the event?” Someone suggested disciplinary collars for the guards. You know the guards would just kill the lords.

I’ve seen arguments that Zionism is a type of anti-Semitism before. But I’ve never seen a quote quite like this from *Theodor Herzl* the father of political Zionism: “the anti-Semites will be our most dependable friends, the anti-Semitic countries our allies”
