When we asked what motivated participants to join the march, the responses were similar and different from at the Women's March in 2017. These data show that Climate has climbed to be a top motivation for people across the Left in 2025:

94% of the crowd reported being Left leaning and, like participants at the first Women's March, almost all voted for the Democratic challenger Kamala Harris

In contrast to the first Women's March in 2017, which motivated a ton of new people, only 24% of participants were first-time protesters. Even though they weren't new to protest, most did not have experience with the first Trump Resistance. Here's a table of their previous protest experience:

In honor of the Inauguration today, I'm going to share some toplines from our survey of participants at the People's March in DC (I did this after the big marches during Trump 1.0 to document the Resistance), so here goes: People came from all over the US to participate--81% lived outside DC.
