Also in Syno’s Board Game Corner: My copy of The Hottest Game Of 2025 [citation needed] came in today. I’m going to have to actually look into the solo mode of this thing, but I’m glad to get it.

I can't draw for shit, but I decided to draw a shitty comic about board games idk
Panel 1: A non-descript figure is speaking to something the artist is implying is both a bird person and themselves, but has failed to convey successfully.
NDF: Oh cool, you're into board games too?
Syno: Yeah, absolutely!
NDF: We should have a game night!

Panel 2: The non-descript figure and the bird abomination against art are thinking about what such a board game night might entail. The non-descript figure is thinking about classic games like Scrabble and Catan, staples for a low key night with friends. Syno is thinking about the BGG's 'Complexity' Rating, which generally represents how "heavy" a game is. The Weight Value of 4.63 out of 5 is generally agreed to be a very heavy and crunchy experience.

Bonus points if someone can identify what game I'm specifically thinking of.

Y'know, this got me to actually look up the study this graph came from, and I'm not sure anymore how much weight I want to give to something with the statement "We estimate population-level effects on IQ loss and find that lead is responsible for the loss of 824,097,690 IQ points as of 2015."
A graph burned into my memory about blood lead levels in children, with a high density in the age range that would coincide with the Gen X age range, based on their ages in 2015. Source: McFarland, Hauer, and Reuben, 2022

Syno’s board game corner: My copy of Earthborne Rangers came in yesterday! I don’t have a lot of co-op games, so I’m glad to have this now. I’m gonna spend this morning getting it organized and fantasizing about actually getting a game together. Though I’ve heard it’s pretty good solo…
A picture of the board game Earthborne Rangers pictured from above on a table, displaying the front of the box. The box art depicts a massive tree, with branches taller than the clouds, with some smaller buildings scattered around it and even some built into it. The words “Earthborne Rangers” is printed in the tree’s leaves. There is a path leading to an opening in the front of the tree, and the surrounding area depicts forests and mountains.

Earthborne Rangers is a co-op card game for 1-4 players. In it, players play as Rangers, a group tasked with aiding the people of an area known as The Valley, as well as tending to the wilderness itself. Players build decks representing their Ranger’s histories and equipment and play through a campaign lasting up to 30 in-game days.

Earthborne Rangers is known for its construction being ecologically conscious, with no plastic in or on the box, or other harmful materials to the Earth. It’s been claimed that one could “safely bury the box in the woods when you’re done with it”, though that claim might be a bit of hyperbole. In any case, the effort to make a game in this way is commendable, especially in a hobby that tends to revel in plastic figurines or other plastic accessories.

No shade on plastic figures though personally. I’m just as weak as the next tabletop gamer to a dude with sick looking armor or a cool spaceship.

Today in Syno’s board game corner: My copy of the solo game/puzzle [CITY OF SIX MOONS] came in and I’m looking forward to getting into it. Described as an anthropological discovery of an alien society, it’s a neat puzzle to try to learn how to play from a rulebook with only bizarre iconography.

[CW: Implied AV] Syno's occasional dabbles in the art of Mad Science have resulted in some... unusual effects over the years. Not that he minds here, really. His head's not really doing the thinking anymore... 🎨: anothermeekone.bsky.social
Syno, my crow sona, having been transformed into a taur with an extremely fat ass, is having his brain drained by said ass and commanded to stuff his stupid beak with as many calories as possible. The ass is bigger, smarter, stronger. It demands more meals of the weak willed, and the mindless crow's only role is to carry it on its campaign of grand ambition.

The Grand Galactic Imperium's methodology for uplifting lesser lifeforms up to contributing members of the civilization may be a bit questionable, but I don't think Syno minds much... of anything, really. Art by hypnoidiot.bsky.social Thank you so much (and sorry for my awful dialog holy smokes)
Syno, an anthro crow with a muscular build, sits hunched over on a chair with his beak hanging slack, allowing his long tongue to flop out and drool all over himself. His eye is red, much like the light on top of the dunce that's been place on top of his head. He sits nearly naked, save a golden thong that doesn't quite cover everything.

Off screen alien: “Congratulations, earthling! As the newest, uh, recruit to the Grand Galactic Imperium, you will be soon be undergoing reeducation to fulfill your new role and integrate into our wondrous, peaceful and culturally rich society!”

Syno: “What’s going…? My head’s all… fuzzy…”

Alien: “Yes, soon you will be in reeducation, but first you must complete deeducation through our specialized helmet designed to emulate a symbol among your people for an intellectual baseline. Your intellectual capacity will be greatly reduced but fear not! Recent breakthroughs in our technology have allowed us to restore up to thirty percent of your lost mental acuity!”

Syno: “Gettin’… Dum-dum? Hurr huh huh huh haaaa…”

Alien: “…Twenty percent.”

Syno: “Wheeee! Me fuuu guh guh guh huh hurrr!”

Alien: “Fifteen.”

Just looked up what was actually nominated for Best Picture that year and... I think I should try to see everything there *except* the actual winner
A list of the Best Picture Nominees for the 60th Academy Awards, from Wikipedia, the year The Princess Bride would have been eligible. At least two of those, Broadcast News and Fatal Attraction, are considered all-time classics, neither of which is the winner, The Last Emperor. Moonstruck seems fun! Hope and Glory is also here.

It's interesting to compare my old list from 2021 to my current one. Some of that is my tastes shifting over the years, some of that is just maybe building comfort with myself over some stuff In any case, Mental TF My Beloved 🌀😍🌀 Forever undefeated in my arena of fixations
My new tier list on TF stuff, based purely on at the moment vibes. My old tier list from 2021, reflecting a bit on how I've cooled or heated up on certain things.
