Here, some minor hope - not re immigrants but at least there's something there that resembles actual left values????????? Which is not much at all but we'll sort of take it? Bar very low?

I love how this is written like there's something nefarious about responding to observable trends in polling. You'd hope that he'd either prioritise what's best for the country or what will win, yeah? (They're the same thing here for Labour tbf - more super hot takes here at midnight!)

Surreal this dude is possibly keeping his job when literally everyone in the country is mocking him in exactly the same way.

Jaysus, how bad was this match? What happens now is one of them scores at least one more penalty than the other, Dion. You've seen it before. Promise.

Anyway, as academia remains on fire, here's my personal survival guide in it, which started as a joke but is pretty real - the chronic lack of investment means we've got to take care of ourselves because we're constantly asked to do more with less. Credit to a colleague with a Canva addiction.
Sylvia's rules: 1. Learn to say no. 2. Avoid anything involving more than 1 other person whose work ethic you know. 3 if you have to ask if it's worth it, it isn't.

This bizarrely worded clause reads (at a glance) like a get-out-of-jail for parents who send their kids to conversion therapy as long as they can claim "well, it was legally provided, and they didn't indicate they'd be particularly mean in delivering it!". Not sure what else it would achieve. 8/

Sylvia de Mars @sylviademars.me · 25/06/2026
The offence of 'abusive conversion practice' prima facie reads appropriately, but remember - it's only abusive if you're a medical professional who is being particularly rude about what they are doing, so this doesn't actually catch much behaviour. 7/

Sylvia de Mars @sylviademars.me · 25/06/2026
'Trans' meanwhile incorporates non-binary identities. I'm not sure this is better than the usual complete ignorance in law they face - like, if they were going to notice enbies, ideally it would not be just to make it legal for healthcare professionals to talk them *out* of being non-binary. 6/
170 7
Sylvia de Mars @sylviademars.me · 25/06/2026
What does this 'health care provision' exception cover? Basically *anything* that is provided as a form of care - whether by the NHS, private clinicians, therapists, what have you. All are enabled to politely pursue conversion therapy for 'health care' purposes. 5/
160 6
Sylvia de Mars @sylviademars.me · 25/06/2026
There's further steer on what would be contrary to those professional standards in the subsequent clauses - which basically makes it sheer that you can't literally bully the gay or trans out of someone, but short of that, you're fine to do whatever. Just be polite in denying them care! 4/
160 6
Sylvia de Mars @sylviademars.me · 25/06/2026
Where it falls apart is in the exceptions: it is basically a free-for-all for 'health care' providers to do whatever they want to, provided said practices are not (basically) contrary to whatever professional standards apply to their provision. 3/

From Article 2 evidence provided to NI Scrutiny Com in the Lords by the ECNI folks - flabbergasted at the phrasing of this question, which at best shows ignorance about the Brexit settlement and devolution, and at worst basically implies that legal differences are just NI being 'uppity' (!)

Oh fuck off, BBC. The passive voice? Really? Choosing to make it sound like it just sort of happened and these weren't grown people who had planned to go out for a race-oriented pogrom? You're beyond not fit for purpose and I despise Labour for not going in hard on you and all other media.

Peak "girl please" here - universities don't have a choice, they're subject to the CMA because you *did* want them to be that type of marketised, just not some other types, just a wee half-hearted public/private mess as a sector, worst of all worlds, which is - oh, I see! - our fault. 🫠

This is politicese for "oh God don't ask me hard questions about the detail, you know I don't know the detail, you asshole!", isn't it. Huge shout-out to BP for dropping this and then fleeing all scrutiny. If she's one of the best performers in modern Labour, it should be super embarrassed.

"he's got ideology" is only a commendable quality if that ideology isn't wildly off-putting to the vast majority of former guaranteed Labour voters, guys (And his slick Blairite horny-for-privatisation everything is also going to massively put off the Reform tempted. Come on.)

Sylvia de Mars @sylviademars.me · 09/05/2026
But here's some real Turkeys voting for Christmas: the disabled and carers and people with diabolically bad health are way more likely than very healthy people to vote for Reform, and are going to be very angry when they realise what that will do for the already insufficient support they get! /4

You know you, as a foreigner, have been doing work on NI long enough when you read this start of a UKSC judgment and just make a weird 'balloon deflating' sound out loud. 🤡 (A few days later and nope, it's not really gotten any better. Proper scundered reading it, so it is.)
1. There have been longstanding conflicts in Ireland, including over the partition of
the island. A key aspiration of Irish nationalists has been to bring about a united Ireland,
with the whole island forming one independent state. This aspiration conflicts with that
of unionists in Northern Ireland, who want that region to remain part of the United
Kingdom (“the state”, in what follows). These conflicting aspirations together with many
other pervasive and serious communal differences resulted in violence during what have
commonly come to be known as “the Troubles”, leading to many tragedies with a deep
and profoundly regrettable legacy of suffering. More than 3,500 people were killed during
the Troubles, with approximately 40,000 injured. Around 1,200 cases relating to killings
remain unsolved.

I mean, I think they mostly mean that you and yours are really unwanted, babe. Taking anything else simple from them is your spads earning their paycheck. Maybe we could do some research and reflecting before we commit to more of the same.

So what I'm getting from this is that actually, somewhere between 53 to 80% of the active party membership voted for Powell, while people with no interest in the party who just happen to be in a trade union that pays a political levy have... no interest in the party. Seems a pretty solid win imv.

Oh no, now the BBC is trying, and it's worse. Lads Helldivers II is a satire where you *play* the fascist humans who are taking their fascism out on bugs that they think are fascist. And what it means is it's satire. What an extremely online dude made of it: ???? It's -- no. Stop.

Family Pokemon update: we've all found our niches (I'm a Bolt, wife is a Pult, daughter loves Eevee Box, Zard, and shoving Lillie's Clefairy into everything). The mad buying should taper off now, but hasn't been entirely fruitless; here's our current illustrated rares & master balls from S&V.
Bad picture with lots of glare taken of 18 pokemon cards with illustrations or master balls on them, all mostly hidden by the fact that they're all sleeved and toploaded. Don't bother robbing us, if they were worth it we would have sold them already - they're mostly just pretty!

What the fuck is any of this? These aren't admin tasks anyone teaching at university at least should be dealing with at all, and even at secondary I'd want to advise Porsche's parents to get a hobby and wouldn't need AI to move her deadlines. Who is this actually for?!
