My students are starting their semester projects! 🌎 They research a World History topic and bring it to life. I never want cost to limit a student’s creativity. If you’d like to help, my Amazon Wishlist has gift card options for project supplies! ❤️📚 www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/...

THIS is why classroom gift cards are such a huge part of my #ClearTheList. 🥹 My students don’t just read about history, they build it! We would appreciate any help we can get! www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/...

Our students deserve teachers who believe in their dreams. We deserve to believe in ours too. ❤️

You matter outside your classroom. You are more than your job title. Your dreams are still worth chasing, even if they take longer than you planned. Keep applying. Keep trying. Keep believing there’s still time.

So this fall, I’m applying again. I’m hoping this time the funding comes through, and if it does, I’ll finally get to take the next step toward earning my PhD. If you’re a teacher reading this, I hope you’ll remember something that I need to remind myself of too..

Sydney Scheidemantel @sydneyscheide.bsky.social · 01/08/2026

I had to let go of something I’d worked so hard for. I won’t pretend that it didn’t hurt. It felt like watching a future I’d imagined slip away. But I’ve realized something over the past year: postponing a dream isn’t the same as giving up on it.

Sydney Scheidemantel @sydneyscheide.bsky.social · 01/08/2026

Sometimes I think teachers get so used to putting everyone else first that we forget we’re allowed to have dreams too. Last year, I was accepted into my dream PhD program. I was so excited to begin this fall. Then reality hit. Without funding, I simply couldn’t make it work.

If you’re working in digital humanities, history education, or media literacy, I’d love to connect. This feels bigger than just one classroom. #DigitalHumanities #HistoryEducation #PublicHistory #EdTech

000

Sydney Scheidemantel @sydneyscheide.bsky.social · 15/04/2026

I’m now developing this into a research project on how digital environments shape historical thinking. Especially in an age of misinformation.

100

Sydney Scheidemantel @sydneyscheide.bsky.social · 15/04/2026

The result? Students didn’t just engage more—they started questioning sources in a way I hadn’t seen before.

100

Sydney Scheidemantel @sydneyscheide.bsky.social · 15/04/2026

So instead of fighting it, I started changing how I teach: → analyzing history like content → breaking down narratives like algorithms → having students create digital interpretations

100

Sydney Scheidemantel @sydneyscheide.bsky.social · 15/04/2026

The challenge isn’t just accuracy. It’s that they trust these formats more because they’re engaging, visual, and feel immediate.

100

Sydney Scheidemantel @sydneyscheide.bsky.social · 15/04/2026

When I asked where they get information about historical events, the top answers were: – TikTok – YouTube – Instagram Not a single student said a textbook first.

100

Sydney Scheidemantel @sydneyscheide.bsky.social · 15/04/2026

I’m a high school history teacher, and my students are learning more history from TikTok than from textbooks. That’s not an exaggeration. #DigitalHumanities #HistoryEducation #PublicHistory #EdTech

How is it NOT criminal that loan companies deny income-based plans to public servants? How is a $2,700/mo loan payment “feasible” on a $50k teacher salary before taxes, bills, childcare, groceries? It’s predatory and pushes good educators out.

Starting my FMLA tomorrow to take care of some health issues and give my body time to heal. As much as I know I need this time, it’s still hard knowing that teacher FMLA is unpaid. No income for weeks while also managing recovery is stressful.
