If it were, they would have targetted the designs, no? instead of tactically setting up patents to troll the competition out of the way. The reason why they pivoted to pre-1.0 to begin with is because palworld complied and changed each of those mechanics (removal of pal glide and throw summoning)

Effectively won means that the change was made *well after* Nintendo's lawyers pivoted to trying to sue the original release of the game rather than 1.0. This meaning that nintendo's lawyers were cornered by their blatant patent trolling so they had to drop their original goal of shutdown.

They changed their designs *after* they had effectively already won the suit by the way, it was more for countering public opinion (which isn't going to change anyways since people are way too subscribed to "once scorned always terrible"). The actual things changed during the suit were mechanics.

Once again, i would like to note that palworld is AGAINST genAI. The year one allegations were false, the CEO statements are from a time before everyone knew what AI was going to do, and the devs have gone on record stating they currently do not support any use of it at all.

Seconded! Be forewarned though, the game has a bit of a tendency to get VERY grindy in its' second half. Made a bit worse by 1.0 reworking a lot of the recipes to have frankly nonsensical components at points.

This also helps you out with the trait system, since then you do not have to replace workers and therefore you gain the ability to spec their traits out a LOT for work speed bonuses and sanity management. In other words, by keeping your pals happy you drastically boost your speed in the long run!

Good news, the game actually *highly REWARDS* you for treating your pals ethically and punishes you actively for mistreatment of them. There's two work states that are considered "humane" and keeping your pals happy prevents them from getting injuries or illnesses that would drastically slow them.
