You young things! We had little grannies you held up to get a decent radio signal. There were reel-to-reel recorders if you were really posh. Taped, indeed!!

I'm not sure I completely understood you, but food that you have defrosted should always be eaten or cooked within 24 hours.

Spending a couple of days in London this week, I booked travel assistance on the trains I used. I found them really helpful and efficient. Particularly those in Euston who got several of us seated on the only train going north on Saturday. Just want to say thanks #travelassistance #traintravel

Who else remembers walking past cardboard city around Waterloo Station in the 80s and being told there was no such thing as society? Watching riots in the mining areas and collecting funds to help those struggling to feed themselves? The 80s were mostly a time to forget.

And Scotland were given their opportunity in 2014, but rejected it quite decisively.

I can assure you I have every support for NI leaving the UK and doing whatever it would like to do. As for that matter, for Scotland and Wales to follow suit. But I have no intention of feeling personally guilty about events that happened centuries ago. Sorry.

I'm the first to admit that I don't understand the quagmire of NI politics, but am I right in thinking that a great contribution towards the problems was the decision of a Scottish King James VI to encourage the migration of many Scots who also brought a strong Presbyterianism ethic?

Not 'whining' just pointing out that it is not pleasant always being moaned at for something which is nothing to do with me. My background is Welsh miners forced to the Midlands. I'm adult enough to accept 300 years is a long time ago, get over it!

So glad Americans are being educated about the world. Bit unfortunate that the rest of us have to suffer from their ignorance.

No, the problem is the constant negativity towards the English. As far as I am concerned, I would much prefer that the other countries became independent, although I'm sure the English would still be blamed for all wrongs. It's depressing to be so disliked.

Please, could you all just go? For 78 years I've been told how horrible me and my country are, how much nicer every other country is, and how much better you'd be without us. Fair enough, no arguments, you win. We English are monsters. Don't slam the door as you leave.

Around 4% of the population was killed in the war of the roses. Compare with around 2.5% of US population in the Civil War. 'Roses' because this was the opposing armies emblem - Middle Ages ~1450s. Still are combined inUK Coat of Arm. We have a lot of history!

You were rather dismissive, you know. If you're interested, the comment comes originally, I think, from UK TV not allowed to promote one item over others, so if they mentioned a certain brand of washing powder, then 'other washing powders are available'.

Apologies for UK sarcasm. Explanation: thisis a standard response here when someone concentrates only on one thing when there are others that can be considered.

I go back to this era every time I hear Eye of the Tiger - I think I could even do the routine! Early 1980s living in Los Alamos, jazzercise at high altitude, 6 mile runs, at 30 I was so fit. Great times!

I think weight in cups is very annoying too, but just to be on the side of fairness: it was obviously an easy way to measure out on the prairie in your wagon, and different weights because basically you're measuring volume of varying substances. Still hate recipes with cups, though!
