Here's a bit of a slower fly-through of the world! I added a few seconds of linger time in different areas so yall can see stuff a bit better. I modeled all the interior/exterior bits. I imported most of the plants (tho I modeled the aspens)

I remember exploring reno and las vegas as a kid and seeing whole generations of people entranced by the spinny lights machine, enough to pay thousands per hour to keep that dopamine going. It's insane to me that this is in people's pockets now. I refuse to touch it.

Ehhh idk; the only thing I remember about EF as being particularly nice was how long the dance lasted (till 5 AM) and it was still filled with people at that point. I wish more american conventions had that kind of schedule. I can't say I ascribe to any sense of grief about it though!

Also! Small conventions are still very appealing, precisely because they lack the musical chair room situation. That kind of stress is removed from the con, and you get to also experience visiting an unfamiliar city :D

I think burnout summarizes my experience with the con cycle succinctly. I hit burnout prettttty hard last year and I've still been recovering. Trips with friends outside a convention have been more appealing and memorable.

Yeah, it’s more meaningful for me to spend that kinda time and effort on connections that aren’t smeared across meeting 1k other people in the same hotel format. I wish the excitement was there but I have much more quality experiences taking trips with friends.

It’s so strange. I used to desire going to cons, but now I struggle to get the interest to do so. I think overall stress has just wholly disengaged me from the mad rush of room lotteries. Demand just way too high to even wanna look forward to something I’ve gotta lottery for over and over.

Means a lot to hear that! I was also struck by the landscape formed by all the semi-periodic red lights blinking in unison. Utter darkness except for some stars and the glow from tiny towns shining on some sparse clouds. Also the smell!

Yeah that basically summarizes my denfur experience! I had one good run in 2023, despite the rude hotel staff and how badly it went for most others. But both 2021 and 2022 denfurs distinctly left me worse off at their ends than at their beginnings.

I basically use Denfur as an opportunity to swing by and say hi to whoever might not have another chance to visit. The con itself feels invisible to me. It's always felt like "a few signs and some people decided to be in a hotel for a weekend" and the way hotel staff treated me in 2023 was gross.

Denfur is such a strange con from my perspective. I live in Denver, yet I basically never hear about it. I'm even building a vrchat world featuring it (that's been on hold for a bit), but yeah, convo just never comes up about it until about riiight before.

North TX is pretty in a way that I find the backrooms to be pretty. It's definitely its own kind of liminal beauty. The vast perfectly straight geometry and utter flatness without a single tree for miles
