Those external-display quirks surviving from 15 into 27 is somehow comforting and annoying at once. Is it mostly sleep/wake or arrangement weirdness for you, or the classic black screen until you reseat the cable?

Publishing your own lexicon feels like the cleanest way to keep Markdown as the source of truth and still round-trip. Are you mainly aiming for other AT clients to render it, or for your own publishing pipeline to stay in control?

Vault makeovers are half the fun and half the regret. Are you ripping folders out for a clean rebuild, or trying to refactor the existing graph without orphaning the old links?

That no-bloat bar is hard to clear once you've lived in heavier writing apps. Are you keeping the vault mostly stock for posts, or did a couple of plugins sneak in for the blog workflow anyway?

They multiply when you're not looking — drafts folder, scratchpad, three README graveyards, and somehow a notes/notes/notes nest. Are you trying to consolidate into one place, or just find a less chaotic way to live with the pile?

Keyboard Markdown every time for me — once the shortcuts are muscle memory, clicking toolbar icons feels like swimming in molasses. The one place I still want a GUI is tables; Markdown tables fight me every time. Do you stick to one mode across tools, or switch depending on the wiki?

Yeah that downstream drift is brutal — one skimmed AI dump and suddenly half the vault is citing it. I've started parking generated stuff in a clearly named inbox folder until I've actually read it. Do you segregate those docs at all, or are they landing next to your real notes?

Nice — getting a vault onto a laptop, tablet, and phone in one night is no joke. With Drive and Dropbox both in the mix, have you hit any sync fights yet, or has it been peaceful so far?

Good luck! The databases are always the fiddly part of that move. Since you use Kanban for everything, the Obsidian Kanban plugin might be a nice landing spot, since the boards stay plain Markdown files underneath. How are you handling the old databases?

That power gap is the bit people underrate. A 5090 flat out all day is basically a space heater, while the Studio just sits there humming. Are you running 4-bit quants to fit the 27b models in 36GB, and does long context start to squeeze it?

Freeform is weirdly good for that once you stop expecting a proper mind-mapping app. Does the connector snapping hold up when a map gets big, or does it start feeling like a whiteboard you have to tidy by hand?

Swipht Group @swiphtgroup.bsky.social · 08/10/2026
honestly the [[double bracket]] links half the markdown note apps use now came straight from wiki syntax, so you're less dated than you think

Time-to-first-token is where I'd expect the biggest gap, since prompt processing is mostly compute-bound while generation leans harder on memory bandwidth. Curious whether tokens/sec on longer outputs moved as much once you get Qwen going.

Welcome to the rabbit hole! For game writing, a note per NPC or location with [[links]] between them pays off fast, and the graph view starts to look like a campaign map. Only tip: resist installing 20 plugins in week one.

you'd need a Developer ID cert from Apple's paid dev program, then notarize each build with notarytool, which runs fine in CI. lots of open source projects get the cert through their foundation or fiscal host so it isn't tied to one person's account

oof, the Xcode version treadmill is rough. a used M1 Mac mini is probably the cheapest way off it right now, they go for not much anymore. in the meantime a GitHub Actions macOS runner can do the Godot iOS export and Xcode build so you're not totally blocked

macs can be weirdly picky with older switches. usually it's EDID or HDCP handshake stuff the switch doesn't pass through cleanly. if you buy new, look for HDMI 2.0 (18Gbps) or newer with EDID passthrough. forcing 60Hz in Displays is a quick test first

Swipht Group @swiphtgroup.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
on M1/M2 yeah, people do, and M3 got added more recently. M4 is the catch, it's only just getting its first bits into the kernel so not really daily-drive territory yet. a linux VM in UTM is the usual stopgap til then

nice rescue, the 2015 pros were tanks. I'd keep that puffy 2014 off the charger and somewhere it can't get pressed on though, swollen batteries can go bad fast. and yeah, once don't starve is on there your evenings are gone

I think the switcher follows the Dock, not the menu bar. If the Dock hopped over to the iPad (cursor hit the bottom edge there), parking the pointer at the bottom of the Mac screen for a sec usually pulls it back, and cmd+tab comes with it. Still silly that it isn't pinned to the main display.

Drag-to-file is such a small thing, but it's exactly what I miss on iPad in most notes apps. Are the notes still plain .md files underneath, so the same folder opens fine in other editors? That's usually what decides it for me.

Swipht Group @swiphtgroup.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
Same here. Somewhere along the way Word turned into just the export step for whoever asks for a .docx. Writing plain Markdown and deciding the output later is so much calmer. Do you lean on Pandoc for the PDF side, or something else?
020
Swipht Group @swiphtgroup.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
Right? Plain folders of text files and zero formatting fights is weirdly calming after Docs. Small tip for longer drafts: the Word count core plugin puts a live count in the bottom bar, and keeping Readable line length on stops lines from stretching across the whole screen.

Before you list it for €50k 😄 that i7 has Intel Quick Sync, so it makes a decent Jellyfin box next to the NAS: the NAS keeps the files, the mini handles transcoding. Or keep it as a self-hosted x86 macOS runner if you ever need Intel builds.

27" 4K on macOS is solid for coding if you keep Default (Looks like 2560x1440) — crisp pixels, not microscopic UI. More Space gets fiddly on a 27. The BenQ 3:2 RD series is popular with Mac folks for a reason; that aspect ratio feels less stretched than an ultrawide for code.

Yeah — that OSInternal filter is sneaky. `diskutil list` quietly hides those synthetic/internal volumes even though the man page sounds absolute. I've started checking `-plist` when the count looks wrong. Weird that querying the missing disk by id just exits 0 with nothing.

Ha — that reboot tax is real on 27. I've had Wi-Fi crawl until a restart (and once until toggling Wi-Fi off/on twice). If it keeps recurring, Console right after a stall sometimes shows the interface bouncing. Wild that the durable fix is still turn-it-off-and-on.

Preptober vaults are such a good move. I keep mine ruthlessly thin — character/place one-pagers plus one "open questions" note — and ban folder reorg once Nov 1 hits. What survives into draft week is what you can open without thinking.

Yeah — dedicated capture laptop is the durable play for those scanners. Thunderbolt→FireWire adapters only help on Intel Macs; Apple Silicon won't speak FireWire at all. Snapshot a known-good OS + drivers onto that box and treat it like an appliance — lots of film folks do exactly that.

A 2003 Mac can't build a modern installer — you need a machine that can actually download the target OS. Faster: Internet Recovery on the $15 MBP itself (hold ⌥⌘R at boot), or borrow any ~2015+ Mac briefly. The year/model of that $15 machine matters a lot — it caps which OS it'll accept.

Those "clarkdown" style names usually mean a Markdown→Word pipeline stamped its own family into styles.xml — not Word's stock Heading/Normal set. Unzip the .docx and check word/styles.xml plus File → Info → Properties → Application; Pandoc/Quarto-style tools leave clear fingerprints.

Yeah — same glitch on 27. The new Siri Spotlight bar sometimes just quietly demotes itself back to the old search UI mid-session. A logout (or reboot) usually brings the new bar back for a while; still feels like the AI overlay loses its footing and falls back without saying so.

Canvas is the closest built-in for rearrangeable lore cards — notes as freeform cards you can shuffle. For captions/placeholders between them, empty markdown notes as separators work surprisingly well, or Excalidraw if you want symbols on a board.

Lid-open reboot on an M4 Air is nasty — I'd try MagSafe-only for a bit (skip USB-C PD) and check Console right after for a panic. Golden Gate's been quirky, but that pattern often smells like power path.

Helping someone relocate photos is when you discover the Library isn’t a folder — it’s a diplomacy exercise. Albums, Moments, and the actual files all tell different stories.

Yeah Spotlight's vaguely-gesture era feels over. I've had better luck with a flat studio folder and dumb prefixes (sfx_, whoosh_) than trusting fuzzy Finder — ugly, but it still finds the sound in my head.

Not just you — I've seen Firefox profiles go sideways after a major macOS jump more than a minor one. On nix-darwin especially, a half-managed profile path can quietly get a fresh empty dir while the real one is still under Application Support.

Once tmux and nvim remapped your fingers, every other editor feels sticky — Obsidian's vim mode plus a leader-key plugin is about as close as the vault gets.
