"I don't care who is directing the new Eva, I am NOT playing NieR!"

Dan (a short man, with black hair (including a soul patch), jeans, black shoes, and a shirt with the word "Jerk" on it), from the show Dan Vs. staring up at the camera with an annoyed expression!

In short, these characters are all children of fate. Destiny's prodigal sons who live in order to ensure a better tomorrow. Their roads are paved with sorrow. Loss. Pain. Suffering. Forced to bear a heavy cross. But they carry it. If it means the sun will shine bright tomorrow... They'll do it.

Silver:

• X: struggle with the morality of their missions; fight for necessity, not glory
• Trunks: time travelers for a better future; duty bound, they fight for a better tomorrow
• Aang: children thrust into destinies they never asked for; preservers of life
• Roxas: struggle with the weight of their roles; defined by choosing their path, rather than accepting the one laid out
• Shulk: defiers of destiny; optimistic for a better future and will fight tooth and nail to ensure it
• Simon: hope filled idealists; grew to become the beacon that others needed
• Hope: grew through turmoil and strife; rife with trauma and emotional fragility, but hardened through their trials
• Lucas: trauma in their upbringing influenced them today; quiet, resilient, and have the power to shape the world

Silver's troupe are denizens of doomed futures. Fate has happened before they had a chance to interviene, leaving a world either on the brink of or already collapsed. They all have suffered greatly, lost many, and are thrust into scenarios where they need to be a savior before...being as they are.

My own analysis on the Silver variant post!

The long and short of it is, these 9 characters are mired in past expectations and future conquest. Having their destinies lined up for them. But they refused. They bear the cross of their past, but (mostly) let that shape their present. Their future. So nobody else has to suffer as they have.

A collage of 9 fictional characters; 8 of them surrounding the subject and focal point of the image: Shadow the Hedgehog.

They include from top to bottom:

Vergil (Devil May Cry)
Jin Kazama (Tekken)
Jotaro Kujo (Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders)
Nicholas D. Wolfwood (Trigun)

Shadow the Hedgehog (Sonic the Hedgehog)

Zero (Mega Man Zero)
Mewtwo (Pokemon)
Vegeta (Dragon Ball Z)
Cloud Strife (Final Fantasy 7)

Shadow:

• Vergil: tragic event blinds them; pursues a goal antithetical to what they lost
• Jin: cursed by blood; overcomes their heritage through own power and koved ones
• Jotaro: spends life atoning for previous tragedies; grows socially and goes from reluctant to true hero
• Wolfwood: carrying the weight of their past; consistently reminded/haunted by ghosts of the past
• Zero: created as the "Ultimate Lifeform"; turns amnesiac hero with angst over their original functions
• Mewtwo: initially despised humanity due to tragedy; comes to tolerate, but not forgive them
• Vegeta: rival/foil to protagonist; gains power and companions not through birthright, but their own actiibs
• Cloud: influenced by their surroundings ; negatively by their past tormentors and positively by new present loved ones

Shadow's team is defined by their past. Vessels chained to the tragedies of yesterday; whether they were recipients, the ones dealing in it, or what have you. They are intertwined with aspects of who they once were; unable to truly escape the pit they clawed their way out of.

The long and short of it? These characters are not heroes by nature. They're snarky, distant, sometimes downright rude. Not heroic conventionally. However. They're heroes by choice. Their moral codes lead them to do what is right, and make them heroes. Fighting for themselves and their loved ones.

A collage of 9 fictional characters; 8 of them surrounding the subject and focal point of the image: Sonic the Hedgehog.

They include from top to bottom:

Vash the Stampede (Trigun)
Ryuko Matoi (Kill la Kill)
Yusuke Urameshi (Yu Yu Hakusho)
Spike Spiegel (Cowboy Bebop)

Sonic the Hedgehog (Sonic the Hedgehog)

Josuke Higashikata (Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: Diamond is Unbreakable)
Arsene Lupin the Third (Lupin the Third)
Ranma Saotome (Ranma ½)
Inuyasha (Inuyasha)

Sonic:

• Vash: stalwart in their ideals; defined by their beliefs and strive to uphold them
• Ryuko: fiercly rebellious towards those who oppose their ideals; both oppose oppressive systems, and strive for personal freedom
• Yusuke: mask their seriousness with jabs and sarcastic banter; act mostly on internal morality, not traditional heroes
• Spike: aloofness and devil-may-care attitude on the surface; holds a core of composure shaped by
• Josuke: relaxed confidence, with a fierce focus when threatened; magnetic and charismatic, almost universally liked
• Lupin: not beholden to the concept of "good and evil"; does whatever feels right, regardless of what other people think
• Ranma: nomads who have very strong core ideals; competitive and cocky with the talent to back up their bluster
• Inuyasha: prideful and diametrically opposed to authority; their initial solitary lives become enriched by their friends and loved ones

Sonic's crew are united by strong core ideals and personal morality wrapped up in an aloof and sarcastic outer shell. These characters are defiant to the end; truly unwilling to be chained by another's way of life. They live for themselves and for their personal beliefs and won't betray them.

My own analysis on the Sonic variant post!

"You don't get it you gotta have a kid with me; the stats will be LEGENDARY!"

Fire Emblem: Awakening: 8/10 (B+) - Replay

Ahh, Awakening...

I, admittedly don't have much to say on this game. It's just...really solid. The story's solid; especially the 1st third. Such a harrowing tale about destiny, and how one's determination can be the means to breaking the red string that ties us all.

This game is like....not that balanced? And that's really fun! Not to say it's poorly designed, rather, it's easy to break. Pair Up, specific skills, the way reclassing words, etc. The game encourages you to find strong strategies, and it's SO fun to blitz through the game.

Granted. I wish the game engaged with some of the strategies they gave to you. I think the fact enemies just don't get to participate in the broken aspects of the game leads to some encounters just being your army vs. a horde of cannon fodder.

Fun game! Really liked it and it definitely was strong enough to save this franchise. I'm glad it did.

"We'll be best friends forever, won't we?"

Disney's The Fox and The Hound: 7.5/10 (B)

In all fairness, this is a pretty standard early Disney film. This movie moves very fast (the main duo establish their lifelong friendship over the course of, like, a day), the beats of the plot are pretty easy to predict, and some aspects of the story did admittedly have me rolling my eyes (hey why did the FOX AND THE HOUND survive a BEAR ATTACK?!?!?!?).

For all intents and purposes, I shouldn't really think much of this movie.

But...

The core themes of friendship through the passage of time, and how that may fade simply through people changing and growing differently from each other.

Their relationship (less so than their stated friendship) is something that I really liked! The way the movie frames how they grew apart and how those changes to their environment leads to them coming into conflict feels natural through the lens that the movie provides!

As...someone who struggles with fears of relationships with people I care about fading; the ever present dread that the people who you once spoke to and spent time with just...aren't in your life before, this movie really portrayed that fear deceptively well.

That last scene did make me cry, I think.

Good movie.

My partner, bless her heart, has just started playing RE2R with me! We're talking about it, I'm learning about RE, she heads off for a bit! Hours later. At 2ish AM. We're talking and she sends THIS gif. Notice the Flynn/Hans thing in the bottom right. She dooms me to look and then GOES TO BED!

Who in the fuck could have expected this guy to be a hero you DIDN'T if you DID you're a LIAR!

Bartok the Magnificent: 8/10 (B+)

A step up from the movie it's spinning off from! I think Bartok's journey being consistently focused on him gives him a lot more agency when it comes to the actual narrative (Anastasia herself isn't...really much as a character as much as it feels she is a vehicle for events of the plot to happen).

The movie feels snappier, too. Probably attributed to it's shorter run time, but the whole movie feels well paced and the character's growth feels appropriate for what the movie wants them to be.

Music is on point as always! The song selection is a tad stronger than Anastasia's in my opinion, but they're both blessed with a wonderful soundtrack.

A good time! A welcome surprise!

An alright movie that was pretty heavily lifted by the fucking cool ass necromancer they got as the villain like holy SHIT.

Anastasia (1997): 7/10 (B-)

There isn't...really much I feel like I can say about this movie. The premise was really interesting, the cast of characters were entertaining (if a tad flat).

The songs were quite good, surprisingly! Rumor in St. Petersburg, Once upon a December, and Journey to the Past are my personal favorites!

Rasputin is a fuckin' rad villain! A soulless husk who strips himself of his humanity and hides away from the world; driven only by his lust and obsession to wipe out the Romanov line; with the same fervor as one may describe exterminating insects.

The movie is relatively generic, outside of the skeleton. In addition to the...admittedly strange portrayal of the Romanov family at the early parts of the movie (tyrants are NOT sympathetic!), but...all in all? I enjoyed it.
