Paul Julian @swampthingpaul.bsky.social · 08/10/2026😂 I've struggled with this my entire life!! not as common as Centre vs Center, Colour vs Color, etc. 🙃 010
Paul Julian @swampthingpaul.bsky.social · 08/10/2026Now that I've been reading more UK based science, I've started second guessing how things are spelled. Todays adventure modeled vs modelled ... apparently modeled is the "American English" spelling while modelled is the "British English" common spelling. The little things that cause side quests 🤦♂️ 110
Paul Julian @swampthingpaul.bsky.social · 29/09/2026The past several months I've been pushing really hard working on data analyses, writing papers, doing presentations, updating work flows, etc. This week I think I hit the wall ... It feels like screaming into the void, professional edition 😔 010
Paul Julian @swampthingpaul.bsky.social · 28/09/2026Happy belated #WorldRiversDay! The Everglades is more than a “River of Grass.” It is a landscape of rivers, creeks, estuaries, marshes, and mangroves, all connected by water. Restoring those connections strengthens the resilience of the entire ecosystem. 🌱🐊🌊 031

Paul Julian @swampthingpaul.bsky.social · 23/09/2026Another outside scope of journal rejection Unfortunately this one took longer than the others getting a full on peer review where reviewer 1 didn't apparently read the paper and reviewer 2 liked it, just not my writing style. Something is amiss in the universe, no snarky comments from R2!! 010

Paul Julian @swampthingpaul.bsky.social · 04/09/2026Awesome!! Congrats, I've been wondering about this for the treatment wetlands in the Everglades. We've focused so long on getting these systems to reduce P concentration to oligotrophic P conc we've never asked about other things. 110
Paul Julian @swampthingpaul.bsky.social · 01/09/2026I've been working on a couple of rapid evidence assessment (in a supporting role and lead). Paul Julian @swampthingpaul.bsky.social · 03/08/2026The peer-review system is so broken ... 1) I have a paper thats been in review for 194 days, the editor has so far invited 6 reviewers. 2) impactor factors are garbage 3) the statistics on days in review/acceptance, etc. are skewed 4) the system is biased (reviewer2 can tank the entire thing) 020

Paul Julian @swampthingpaul.bsky.social · 23/06/2026Hearing a peatland as "unmanaged and economically inactive" is strange to me. Having natural areas in of itself is economically active (ie ecotourism, conservation, water protection and security, etc). What it means no exploitation of natural capital (ie timber harvest, peat cutting, mining, etc). 060
