i would also sometimes draw additional one-off members of her species, though they mostly amounted to randos...according to my own deviantart description the green-spiked long-antennae guy is a CHARONIAN hedgehog, a subspecies. this is basically news to me because i do not remember this at all.

the aforementioned charonian hedgehog. they look a little different, with long droopy antennae, tail spikes, ribbed ears, and colored sclerae with white irises.

these two were named sanguine and sundry and i believe they were kind of supposed to be a team rocket duo but that idea never really germinated. 2006.

for indeterminate reasons i forgot and weren't that important she amassed a cadre of misfit aliens, then got stranded on earth and amassed further misfit earthlings. these were all my sparkledogs except none of them were dogs. I still think "phoenix reincarnated as aquatic mammal" is kinda brilliant

+++ in conjunction with what i wrote for carrie...you can probably anticipate the boiling-over pressure cooker at play between the two of them here

Personal strengths: Burns with an ardent inner blaze of passion, no matter how she tries to hide it. She has a shrewd reporter’s mind and a similar dedication to fostering truth and transparency (in other people, anyway) in conjunction with a compassionate soul, making her fiercely protective of the people in her life she deigns to keep closer than arm's (or neck's) length.

Personal flaws: Completely neurotic and image-obsessed, Carrie's entire projected self is the meticulous upkeep of a minute-to-minute performance designed and perfected to impress anybody perceived "cooler" than her (while simultaneously posturing enough detachment to not read as the kind of nervous wreck who is doing this). She'll tie herself in knots for approval, particularly from a really really really really really hot woman. She can also be snotty and dismissive toward anyone "lower on the food chain" than her, belying her own corny heart full of tenderness and devotion. Also her hubris is her horniness

i haven't really gotten into Lyd's Problem in "canon" yet ("girl what's ur problem," the central question at the core of brainchild) but as a taste...I found this character questionnaire meme i filled out some years back and had a particularly "🥲" moment rereading what i'd written for her

Personal strengths: Admirably confident and self-assured, Taker of No Bullshit, ambitious and seemingly masterfully in control of her own life and destiny. She has a poetic, wondrous soul (no matter how much she believes she's lost touch with it) and nurtures a deep desire to create, to share profound ideas, and to traverse completely novel and unimagined territory.

Personal flaws: Sardonic and facetious to a fault, people have a difficult time knowing when Lydia is being genuine--people up to and including Lydia herself. She's at once cynical and bored of her own cynicism, expects everyone to behave in all the same telegraphed ways that rarely surprise her for the better, and will twist the knife to prove it. Though she knows her ironic, aloof persona drives away the connections she's longing to make, she seems only happy to let the mask subsume her, fearing she's become withered to the core.

one of the best decisions you can make as an artist is to stop talking about your artwork from a position of defending it. the artists statement should be a tool of pride, community, and conversation, not an appeal to those who had no interest in (or ability to) understand it in the first place.
