Large neon blue feather shapes reach diagonally across the frame from the lower right corner into the black of night. The head of an orange, red and yellow Chinese dragon is centered in the space between two of the feathers.

Wind Turbines Provide Half of Rancher’s Income Since He Decided to Invite Them on His Land
In 2006, the largest wind power project in Kansas was turned on among the Flint Hills. Today, the royalties it has generated for rancher Peter Ferrell are allowing him to pass the farm down to his children. The 50 turbines—which Ferrell barely notices these days—have provided half of his income since then, insulating him and […] The post Wind Turbines Provide Half of Rancher’s Income Since He Decided to Invite Them on His Land appeared first on Good News Network.

Fall colors appear As we leave summer behind Nature's neons glow #WeekNforNeon #AlphabetChallenge #haiku #autumn #pnw
A brilliant fall-colored tree stands out between two still-green neighbors. From red to orange to yellow to pale green, this tree captures the full spectrum of autumn.

A moment of Zen in #3rdplace. This gorgeous #shoreline in #Yachats, #Oregon, is just one of so many incredible #beach options in the #pnw. We are blessed. #blueskyartshow
A rocky shoreline on the Pacific coast. The sun is low and aglow behind a bank of thin clouds. Blue sky shows in between more clouds to the left of the sun. Waves are breaking over the almost-black rocky outcroppings that line the beach. It is low tide, so driftwood is amassed at the tide line. In the foreground, magenta clover flowers pop in the afternoon light.

"Never be afraid to make some noise. It is their shame, not yours."
@kbarton1001
On my first big overseas client conference, I was at a dinner seated next to a drunk client who kept trying to fondle me under the table. I was young, distressed, and had no idea what to do. I moved my legs as far away from him as I could, moving into the space of the man next to me, who then started patting my legs! The Regional Manager was a French woman who caught my eye, gestured for me to go to the bathroom and when I came back had switched chairs with me.
What happed next was epic. A few minutes after I sat back down, she raised her hand with his hand captured in hers and announced loudly "Does anyone know whose hand this is? I found it in my lap." There was dead silence at the table. She threw his hand back at him and said calmly "next time I pick it up with my fork." Then she started a new conversational thread and things moved on.
After the meeting she found me, gave me a hug, and said seriously "Never be afraid to make some noise. It is their shame, not yours."

When the machine is powered by #women. #WeekMforMachinery #AlphabetChallenge #monochrome #oldfamilyphotos
Black and white photo of a Ford Model T convertible, circa early 1920's, being pushed by three young women. The women, all social services staff members of the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, are wearing white dresses, covered with coats of varying length, as well as dark stockings and sturdy black shoes. Knowing, as I do, that the young woman behind the wheel (my grandmother) is likewise employed, we can assume that she is clothed similarly, although only the top of her coat is visible and it is white. All four young women have their heads turned toward the photographer, and despite their predicament, they are all smiling.

Your compassion means more to your client than you can imagine. I will never forget the tender kindness in our vet's hands as she tended to our boy kitty in his final moments 2 years ago. Comfort amidst sorrow is the precious gift you give. Thank you for caring so much.

One of the things I love about being a grandparent (or young parent, for that matter), is seeing the world thru fresh eyes. This vibrant scene near Shinagawa Station in #Tokyo grabbed my attention, reminding me of something from a #RichardScarry #Busytown book. #WeekMforMachinery #AlphabetChallenge
A city construction zone, featuring many different types of machinery and equipment in a rainbow of bright primary colors. Skyscrapers populate the background, under cloudy gray skies.

A white ash tree at the height of autumn color is illuminated from behind by the early evening sun. It's yellow leaves seem to glow, while the redder leaves provide dark contrast. The vineyard beyond is visible under the tree, its lush, vibrant green vines shining in the direct sunlight. Blue sky with a few wispy clouds completes the picture.

One of my all-time favorite personal photos. #WeekLforLookingIn #AlphabetChallenge #oldfamilyphotos
A young dad, wearing khaki work pants and a white t-shirt, is bent over the side of a blue car with his hands deep in the engine. His toddler son, wearing light blue overalls and a striped shirt, stands on a 2 x 4 with his hands on the car's front grill, stretching up and peering over to see what his dad is doing.

Mary Oliver ♥️ “It has saved my life to know this.”
LONELINESS

I too have known loneliness.
I too have known what it is to feel
misunderstood,
rejected, and suddenly
not at all beautiful.
Oh, mother earth,
your comfort is great, your arms never withhold.
It has saved my life to know this.
Your rivers flowing, your roses opening in the morning.
Oh, motions of tenderness!

I have always loved the #golden glow of this photo, and it means even more to me this year as we approach our 50th anniversary (also golden 😎). #blueskyartshow #timeflies
Wedding scene in a church. The bride and groom face one another during the exchange of vows. Her back is towards the camera; he is looking at her. One step up and to their sides, the maid of honor and best man are looking on. The pastor is one step up from them, looking down at a folder containing his copy of the vows and other ceremony proceedings. The bride's dress is cloaked in a white, hooded cape with fluffy trim around the hood and edges. Poinsettias on the chancel and a nativity banner indicate that it is Christmas time.

#Poetry #BlueskyPoetry #MaryOliver When Death Comes by Mary Oliver
When death comes
like the hungry bear in autumn;
when death comes and takes all the bright coins from his purse

to buy me, and snaps the purse shut;
when death comes
like the measle-pox

when death comes
like an iceberg between the shoulder blades,

I want to step through the door full of curiosity, wondering:
what is it going to be like, that cottage of darkness?

And therefore I look upon everything
as a brotherhood and a sisterhood,
and I look upon time as no more than an idea,
and I consider eternity as another possibility,

and I think of each life as a flower, as common
as a field daisy, and as singular,

and each name a comfortable music in the mouth,
tending, as all music does, toward silence,

and each body a lion of courage, and something
precious to the earth.

When it’s over, I want to say all my life
I was a bride married to amazement.
I was the bridegroom, taking the world into my arms.

When it’s over, I don’t want to wonder
if I have made of my life something particular, and real.

I don’t want to find myself sighing and frightened,
or full of argument.

I don’t want to end up simply having visited this world.

Knickers and knee socks. #WeekKforKn #AlphabetChallenge #monochrome #oldfamilyphotos
Monochrome photograph from around 1898. Two smiling boys, estimated ages 12 and 10, are dressed alike in white 3/4 sleeve button-up shirts, medium-dark knickers, black knee socks, and low, lace-up boots. The older boy on the left proudly holds up a stringer of small fish in his right hand. His fishing rod is over his left shoulder. The younger boy holds a pail in his right hand and his fishing rod in his right. A section of wood frame building fills the background.

#Asheville #NC art installation near City Hall. #undulating #blueskyartshow
Ceramic tile and mosaic wall art created by Kathy Triplett at Pack Square Park, adjacent to the Asheville, NC, City Hall. The five panels each feature a geometric mosaic of maroon and tan tiles at the bottom. A funnel shaped design reaches upward from the bottom right of each panel, while a similar shape reaches down from the upper left. The right funnels are divided by three curved horizontal shapes. The left triangles are decorated with graduated c-shape curves.

This is a great interview--well-worth watching--maybe more than once! Too much good conversation to try to summarize in clipped quotes. It's telling that the GOP administration, with their 1st Amendment for "me & not for thee," did not want Americans to have easy access to it on mainstream TV.
