I just unsubbed from a DCC list that must’ve gotten my email address after I contributed to Angie Nixon’s senate fight. Here’s what I told them:
I’m no longer a Democrat. I’m now a member of the Indivisible party, an organization of liberal people who will fight the billionaire fascists instead of collaborating with those who will destroy our democracy.

Until the Democratic Party proves itself and shows that it will fight, by choosing leadership NOT ruled by establishment moderates like Schumer and Jeffries, I will not support you. I’m an activist willing to give my time and money to candidates who will aggressively FIGHT. You do not qualify.

I’m home from a trip to the UK (to see my son!) during which I had a really bad Long Covid crash. As a writer, I appreciate creative punctuation/spelling for interesting words like “j’accuse!-s” in Wonkette’s @evanhurst.substack.com’s latest piece about the government’s latest stupid attack on the SPLC. I completely agree that the explanation point is necessary. Thoughts, @bcdreyer.social ?
WaPo explains some more about the indictment — it’s not on the docket yet, that we’ve seen — namely that it j’accuse!-s the SPLC of paying $4.1 million over 16 years (2007 to 2023) to eight or more informants who infiltrated the KKK and the National Socialist Movement, which is neo-Nazis.

In some cases, prosecutors said, the source of the money was disguised through accounts associated with fictitious businesses, which the organization has said was done to protect informants involved in highly dangerous work. […]

Just got back home to MA after spending the winter down south, opened the fridge drawer to find this petrified clementine and immediately thought “And how was YOUR day, Edward?” #OFMD #StedeBonnet
A sad little lonely, abandoned, dried-out to the point of being petrified clementine sits on the top part of the plastic veggie drawer in the fridge, among the onion skin remains (that the photographer cleaned up after taking the photo!) It looks like a tiny shrunken head and immediately calls to mind the “buried treasure” Stede Bonnet finds beneath the tree in Jim’s childhood orchard. I just found this from the Anthropic FAQ page over @authorsguild.org “If you already filed a Claim Form online, you do not need to also respond to the notice.”
How will I be notified if I am eligible?
Beginning October 2, 2025, you can check the searchable Works List to see if your works are included in the settlement. If so, you can complete the Claim Form on the website. You should also receive a formal class notice by mail and/or email from the Settlement Administrator. If you already filed a Claim Form online, you do not need to also respond to the notice. Direct notice will be completed by November 24, 2025 (the “Notice End Date”), though many authors may hear sooner.

I'm using this great guide from BookRiot bookriot.com/library-elec... to assist my research, and it includes this important info, and at around 15:15 he mentions parents "having their needs met."
A screenshot from the linked article reads: "Go individual by individual on those sample ballots and look up the candidates. Some may have no web presence at all, which might be a red flag, but most will have at bare minimum a Facebook page. Your local newspaper, if you have one, may have interviews with each of the candidates (and if you're paywalled from this, after you cuss a bit, see if you can access the unpaywalled version via your library).

Red flags in candidates for school or library board will include language like "parental rights" or "school choice." Red flags will be clear, too, if you are voting in nonpartisan board elections and you see clear partisanship in the candidate's affiliations or endorsements."

Washington, D.C. - Today, House Speaker Mike Johnson blamed the peaceful No Kings Day of Action on October 18 for the ongoing government shutdown. After a few moments of laughter, the No Kings coalition issued the following statement:
"Speaker Johnson is running out of excuses for keeping the government shut down.
Instead of reopening the government, preserving affordable healthcare, or lowering costs for working families, he's attacking millions of Americans who are peacefully coming together to say that America belongs to its people, not to kings.
"We'll see everyone on October 18."
All No Kings events adhere to a shared commitment to nonviolent protest and community safety.
Organizers are trained in de-escalation and are working closely with local partners to ensure peaceful and powerful actions nationwide.

And definitely, after you spend the time and effort researching your local elections, share what you found in every way possible: on social media, tell friends, fam, neighbors. Hell, make a sign and stick it in your yard! (Here’s a sign I made to make sure my neighbors know about NoKings!
My handmade sign, posted at the edge of my yard, written in sharpie in white foam core, and affixed to the ground via one of the metal frames I had from my countless Harris yard signs. It reads: No Kings October 18th, Natick, 27 & 135, 11 AM - 1 PM, www.nokings.org and includes a drawing of a crown with a red x throughout it.
