Our girl cat, Opal, seen here having colonized my new dice tray, has uses for her mothers (Molly is brush mother, I am nighttime heat source mother), and generally likes or tolerates most men. As a lesbian household, we don’t *understand* our straight daughter, but we support her.
Fluffy grey and black tabby with white belly, chest, and muzzle with blue eyes and an intense expression. She is curled up and overflowing from an octagonal dice rolling tray.

Today’s Catgoyle update: There are birds.

We do! Opal is our girl cat, along with two boys, Iroh (Left, old photo) and Kyoshi (Right, recent). We're Avatar / Legend of Korra fans, hence the names.
Black and grey tabby point, most of which is hidden because his belly, legs, and snout are white. He is flopped on his back with his front paws in the air, completely befuddled because he cannot figure out how to open a door, which is already ajar. Dark seal-point color point with black face, ears, and feet, and darker brown body. His piercing blue eyes are looking the camera from within the legs of a wooden octagonal end table, which makes him look like he is in a cage.

Azula is the skink version of the, “…but then I lol’d” meme.
Two panels of a very young calico kitten. The first with a closed mouth and confused expression, the second with an open mouth appearing to laugh. The text in the first says, “At first I was like” and in the second says, “but then I lol’d!”

Our little cat tree by the front door has a hole in the middle level, and apparently Opal has decided to let it all hang out this morning.
A medium hair mostly black and grey tabby point is laying in a grey carpeted cat tree. She is laying on a flat board with a hole cut in it, spanning the hole such that her floofy belly sags through the hole and is visible below the board.

Every time I drive counterclockwise on 495, I get sad and angry when I pass NSF headquarters. But I’m happy my wife was driving yesterday when I first saw this monstrosity slung across it; I would’ve crashed my car. My language was not fit for print.
The slightly curved facade of the (Old? In flux? Imperiled?) NSF headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia. It has a very large flag that resembles the American flag, but has a circle of stars with the number 250 in it. This is not the logo of the nonpartisan America 250 commemoration, but rather the right-wing Freedom 250 operation.

I think this is where we find a division between the elder millennials and the younger set. Because for the '77-'83 crowd, I believe the triggers were this linoleum and this couch:
70's-era linoleum floor in small squares and rectangles in various shades of olive green.A 70's-era couch with dark wooden armrests and frame and crushed velvet cushions. The cushions are covered in a farm scene with barn, water wheel, and several large flowers rendered mostly in shades of brown.

Genetics Cat chuckling at the chaos it has wrought.
Mostly white cat with black and grey tabby mask and saddle. Its nose is slightly scrunched and it's front paws are held up and pressed together, so it looks like it it chuckling evilly like Mr. Burns from the Simpsons.

Look. I’m not saying the huge gouts of flame at the My Chemical Romance show at Nats Park tonight weren’t badass. I’m just saying we’re in DC and it’s AUGUST. We could feel the heat from those things and we were not that close. Dear God.

Opal and her brother Kyoshi, AKA why females usually live longer.
Two cats are looking out an open front door at a chipmunk on the porch. A medium-hair female is sitting on the floor in front of the closed storm door. Her brother, a dark short hair colorpoint, is balanced precariously on the top edge of the open door.

While I was gone for a week, the boys apparently implemented a new routine. Iroh is no longer forcibly evicting me from my chair at 11:00 PM. Now it’s Kyoshi slowly worming my laptop off and himself into my lap. At least he doesn’t bite!

Last but not least, our chonky boy Iroh. Near as we can tell, he didn’t have the easiest kittenhood. Found alone in a barn with a skin infection that rotted the tips of his ears off, an injured left arm, and no idea how to cat. He’s still our slightly special boy, but he’s come a long way.
Iroh at about six months old, with his tabby point pattern mostly set but still very pale. Five years old in all his hefty, tabby striped, chair stealing glory.

Our lowrider girl Opal, Kyoshi’s littermate, was clearly a lynx-point already, but we did not yet know the majestic fluff (and intelligence, and sass) she would be capable of.
A medium hair kitten sitting on a floral throw pillow wearing a shocked expression. She has black and grey tabby stripes on her face, shoulders, back legs, and tail, and hints of striping appearing on her torso. The same cat much fluffier and darker, with full raccoon tail. She is perched on a cat scratch tower and is obsessively watching birds out a window.

Kitten photos cropped up, and I’m reminded again just how much all our babies have changed. All three are colorpoints, but only Kyoshi went from Siamese-looking kitten to the very toastiest marshmallow.
Four month old kitten with bright blue eyes crouching on a wooden floor. He has dark tips and face and a light tan body at this age. The same cat as a four year old. His body is a medium to dark brown, with nearly black face, ears, paws, and tail. Same piercing blue eyes, though.

Lastly: Take the Trumpian approach to fixing any problem by making it worse! Algae growing out of control? Pshh...lemme show you some REAL aquatic nightmares! Chuck some water hyacinth and giant salvinia in there! Make it look like a Louisiana bayou. Speaker Johnson will feel right at home!
