Susan S @susanso.bsky.social · 13hWhenever there is a news story about business in Btitain it's always illustrated with a photo of a woman going a job usually associated with a man - usually something technical with tools ! Stories about the British car industry-whether doing well or not- always have these photos ! 010
Susan S @susanso.bsky.social · 01/10/2026When I was young I worked as a home care worker looking after elderly people in their own homes. They didn't own their homes so paid rent & lived in poverty. That's the difference now. Support those who don't own their homes, but don't assume all pensioners are the same 020
Susan S @susanso.bsky.social · 01/10/2026I have had a few health problems & received amazing support. This year I have been well enough to go on several holidays where I have met people of similar age who spend their money and time travelling all over the world. 100
Susan S @susanso.bsky.social · 01/10/2026I was in receipt of the reduced state pension 18 years ago. Back then I could get all sorts of discounts - on theatre tickets, admission prices, cheap deals etc. Very little still available any more. I own my own home & get free healthcare. I consider myself very well off! 100
Susan S @susanso.bsky.social · 29/09/2026I think the reduced figure was for those women who claimed their pension at 60. But I'm not sure. 000
Susan S @susanso.bsky.social · 29/09/2026And also that figure, £997, I think is the old state pension, the rate for those younger pensioners is higher. 121
Susan S @susanso.bsky.social · 29/09/2026I get a teacher's pension. which is a public sector pension. In most countries that would be lumped together as the 'state pension' as the two come from the same pot. So no, it is not possible to make a direct comparison. 161
Susan S @susanso.bsky.social · 28/09/2026And get rid of the House of Lords and replace it with an elected second chamber. Read 'Head North' the book he wrote with Steve Rotherham. Its all in there. 010
Susan S @susanso.bsky.social · 28/09/2026He wears contact lenses. Like a lot of people who wear them he also uses glasses on occasion. 010
Susan S @susanso.bsky.social · 24/09/2026@brandlesholme.bsky.social Next Monday, 28th September, we are having a Macmillans Coffee Morning at Brandlesholme Community Centre from 11am. All welcome. 010

Susan S @susanso.bsky.social · 23/09/2026Me too. I loathe Tories for what they have done to this country through austerity, Brexit, Covid. Any slight lift in their polling fills me with hate & despair. Remember they gave us Johnson, Gove, Hancock, Braverman, Dorris & many other fools & incompetent idiots. Are Reform really worse? 000
Susan S @susanso.bsky.social · 19/09/2026With friends like you..... give the man a chance He's Labour, that's good enough for now. 000
Susan S @susanso.bsky.social · 19/09/2026Ha! I was suspended for saying a transwomsn was a man !! Same reason as you really..... 030
Susan S @susanso.bsky.social · 08/09/2026I agree - as a rampant leftie & pensioner I would tax the rich til the pips squeak. What I was wondering was which aspect of the triple lock has been used most often to determine pension increases each year 110
Susan S @susanso.bsky.social · 08/09/2026The triple lock has been going for about 15 years. Does anyone have a breakdown on what aspect of it was used to raise pensions over those years? If it's mainly been the inflation figure I don't think many would object to the other 2 being dropped & inflation bring the sole determinant. 000
Susan S @susanso.bsky.social · 08/09/2026In Europe public service pensions are included in the state pension. In Britain they are separate. So anyone who gets 2 pensions from the state is actually going quite well ! 101
Susan S @susanso.bsky.social · 22/08/2026I've never watched any 'cop' shows on tv. Murder as entertainment is abhorrent. 000
Susan S @susanso.bsky.social · 21/08/2026I care about any1 marginalised for any reason -I've spent my life fighting for equality. When women are treated equally in society, when they are not the victims of male aggression, when 'women's jobs' have equal status to men's then I might have more sympathy for men trying to get in women's places 241
Susan S @susanso.bsky.social · 21/08/2026How are they marginalised ? And where are these huge numbers ? I taught secondary for 35 years and never met any. I did meet a large number of boys who were struggling with their sexual identity and trying not to be seen as gay. 340
Susan S @susanso.bsky.social · 21/08/2026When bodies are exhumed eg mummies experts can identify whether they are male or female very quickly - shape of pelvis, length of leg bones, shape of brow. That's just biology. What we see as being male & female characteristics now have changed over millennia. 460
Susan S @susanso.bsky.social · 21/08/2026Why is it always 'transwomen'? Girls and women who prefer to dress in male clothing & are 'masculine' are always ignored , it's always about men. Perhaps because transmen don't tend to be aggressive? You can call me whatever you like, if that's your thing. 230
Susan S @susanso.bsky.social · 21/08/2026No, not a TERF, and not delusional. Sex is binary, as it always has been. Feeling like a woman or dressing like a woman - go ahead. But unless you have been female from birth you cannot claim to be a girl or woman. 7130
Susan S @susanso.bsky.social · 19/08/2026The unions have already stopped this happening. When I was a Councillor I was often asked why the unemployed & Community Payback could not do litter picks & clear weeds. Answer - because it is a paid job for someone. 1170
Susan S @susanso.bsky.social · 16/08/2026Don't they claim that the coverage they give Reform reflects the number of votes they received in the GE rather than seats won ? It might be useful to look at how many votes LDs Greens & Reform received in total nationally, rather than just seats won by each of the parties. 000
Susan S @susanso.bsky.social · 13/08/2026But they don't answer the phone unless they recognise the number! Too many cold callers use house phones. I've phone banked for the Labour Party & I know how pointless it is. Most elderly people have mobile phones but canvassers can't call them. Which makes had whole exercise pointless. 010
Susan S @susanso.bsky.social · 11/08/2026If IPP sentences were abolished, I believe it would free up 2000 prison places. Also, many women in prison are DV victims with children & no risk to society. The damage their incarceration does to their children is immeasurable - release those in prison for TV licence/benefit fraud. 260
Susan S @susanso.bsky.social · 11/08/2026Steve Rotherham is keen to build something in the Mersey estuary - he talks about it in Head North -the book he wrote with Andy Burnham. Well worth a read. 110
Susan S @susanso.bsky.social · 02/08/2026Just finished reading 'Head North', the book he wrote be4 the last GE with Steve Rotherham. It's mind-blowing & clearly articulate the way Burnham's mind works. I hope he can pull it all off, but it's certainly ambitious & what the country desperately needs. Highly recommend it. Give him a chance. 000
Susan S @susanso.bsky.social · 28/07/2026Recommend reading the book he wrote with Steve Rotherham. Really explains where he is coming from & what his plans are. All written before he became an MP or PM. Anarchic to put it mildly - completely different from anything we have ever seen. Give him the chance to put it into practice. 021
Susan S @susanso.bsky.social · 25/07/2026I don't think Faridge would consider dental care a priority for anyone - £5 million and have you seen the state of his own teeth ?? Yuck. Imagine what his breath is like. 000
Susan S @susanso.bsky.social · 23/07/2026Why has the right wing media suddenly decided to start to ask some questions about Faridge's finances ? Doner story was pushed by The Times-owned by Murdoch - have they had a fallout?. From supporting frog-face to calling him out - there's definitely a story there ! 000
