Fellow Kansan Nancy Kassebaum was the only woman in the Senate when she was elected in 1978. Her three terms there, and her life, were a model of public service and civility. And her political DNA! When she was 4 years old, her father Alf Landon faced FDR for the White House. RIP.

In 1919, six pushy broads who weren't allowed to join the National Press Club formed a group of their own, which ever since has supported women in journalism. Thrilled to be receiving the @washingtonpress.bsky.social Lifetime Achievement Award at its 80th annual dinner on Feb. 4. Thank you, WPCF.
