On #WorldMentalHealthDay, here are some tips for finding your "anchor" when life gets too loud If you're struggling with your mental health as a male, Trans or non-binary survivor, we're here for you. Visit www.survivorsuk.org to see how we can help
An anchor is something you can consistently turn to when you are disturbed by unwanted memories to help bring you back to the present, or support you to manage different emotions.

This can be particularly useful if you struggle with flashbacks or PTSD.Most people think of “anchors” as something they can physically hold or carry.

It can be, but some of us find things that stimulate other senses
– a smell, a sound,
a mental image –
more helpful and conveninent to “carry” with them.Anchors can be...

The smell of herbal tea

Textures like soft fabric or familiar jewellery

Music or a sound that helps you find balance

An image of somewhere safe

The taste of something comfortingMiddle-aged man with a gray beard wearing a knit hat and jacket, accompanied by the text 'What is your anchor?' promoting mental health support for male, Trans, and non-binary survivors. www.survivorsuk.org

Today on #NationalPoetryDay, we're thinking about the healing power of the written word with this poem kindly provided by our client, Tony ✍️ What poems resonate with you or have helped you feel seen? We would love to hear them.
Amphitheatre of the soul, by Tony

I share my tale here
In this amphitheatre of the soul
I wade through emotional quagmire –
Emptiness, rage, love,
hope, hate, empathy,
compassionAs I weave this tapestry of experience –
The threads strands of my soul –
Dark and Light, woof and weft.
The audience - my peers
My fellow travellers who do not turn away.Sun and Shadow, Earth and Moon
Spirit and matter
Conspire to build this place of shared experience
Where reality branches
In paths of hope.

Solar eclipses may happen in the UK once in a generation. Sexual abuse happens every day. It doesn’t take protective eyewear to support a survivor. Believing them and not looking away when they tell you what happened to them can go a long way to helping a survivor start to heal.
