Product review: I’m not sure if this stuff is working or if my hair is thicker bc I now double-shampoo each wash. (Apparently scalp buildup makes you more prone to shedding.) Note: my hair isn’t thinning but I do shed a ton; moreover, I wouldn’t mind restoring the crazy ass lion’s mane of my youth.

I knew I'd learned a lot during that trip, but didn't realize the extent until now, as I develop new film pitches and pivot my career. I strongly recommend that us Canadians travel to international festivals as much as we can - it's very easy to get sucked into our fishbowl here and grow complacent.

Earlier this year, a short doc I made got accepted to the Oscar-qualifying Big Sky Documentary Film Festival - an experience for which I'm profoundly grateful. I did feel self-conscious tho, given the personal (and, I feared, self-indulgent) tone of my story amidst those legacy media-calibre films.

I put my hair in fat rollers last night. I left them in for an hour and then blew out my curls into perfect beachy waves, which I smoothed w/ oil. It confirms that my recent disillusionment w/ cinema is not an ADHD thing. I find a lot of recent films too long, dense, and layered - but without emotional resonance. Moreover, they’re laborious to watch and feel like homework. I’m not the problem - people simply need to make better films.

It’s seemingly abt everyday ppl but sneakily clobbers you - knowing that the average person carries so much baggage and pain. I watched Studio Ghibli’s Only Yesterday & can’t stop thinking about it; it hits hard. But imo, the ending downgrades it from quietly devastating & life-changing to - simply - a great movie. The soundtrack’s Hungarian & Romanian folk songs are painfully haunting - the best Ghibli music I’ve heard

I abhor exercising. But weekly Pilates has killed my lower back and knee pain and fixed many weak core issues. Now, on top of class, I need to work out three more times a week and walk x-thousand steps a day or my ankles and hips get stiff and I feel weird and bereft and gross. So I’m never happy.

Given that my recent bout w/ COVID made me look pretty dull, zitty, and grungy, I’m happy to report that hard work and dedicated occlusive, ceramides, and hyaluronic acid toner layering have restored my complexion to a dewy, bouncy baseline. (My cushy BB cream/foundation and blush also help a ton.)
