Whenever I engage with the Alien franchise, I find a hook. I'm reading @mikediver.bsky.social's excellent Alien: The Video Games book and decided to watch Alien Earth. In our weird world of AI and billionaires seemingly untouchable by Governments, it all feels fascinatingly prescient.

The lesson here is that it was never that the game was bad. It's a lesson in the absolute necessity to properly manage hype in both directions and be unequivocally clear and up front about what your game is and is not.

One thing I wish I could "fix" about myself is the amount of time I spend doing things in games having zero fun. I'm collecting skulls in Halo this morning and I've been on this one skull for about 20 minutes... failing over and over and I don't think I've had a single bit of fun doing it. 😂👏

Thanks to Xbox I got to preview Gears of War E-Day! The Coalition have freshened up Gears movement in a big way, with Horde Siege mode taking inspiration from games like Helldivers 2, giving a jaw-dropping and multi-objective co-op experience on the biggest maps ever. I can't wait to play more.
