i HOPE the battles get better. right now I'm on hard, and like this is easily the easiest fire emblem I've experienced not counting phoenix mode 3DS FE, and like i did that just to see what it was like

ok I'm happy to report the game feels like it's getting better and I think its big issue is that its framing conceit is weak and it's too eager to show you all of the systems it can do early this cuts both ways because it means this is definitely Busywork Emblem but it can settle into a rhythm

Cannot imagine the mind that gets to its 20s and thinks they're the first person ever to discover a legal loophole having to do with money I'd like to say I can't imagine the lawyer who works in real estate and decides that means they can finesse election law by themselves, but no, I know that type

nowhere in the US has as strong of a sense of identity and cultural pride than NYC, and that's a city defined by its immigrants. it is a skill issue if you can only find common ground and neighborly kinship with people that are exactly like you

4 and 5 come very highly recommended but can't personally vouch for them 18 is trying to be a superfusion of the best elements in 9, 13, 15, 16

3 Houses is an apex of the series overall imo. the highlights have been: 7 (GBA), Tactical gameplay 9 (GCN), RPG experience 13 (Awakening), RPG Experience 14Conq, Tactical gameplay 15, RPG Experience 16 (3H), Cast & RPG Experience 17, Tactical gameplay

Art direction is thorough in this one and supports the story well but the game has absolutely no focus.

they're opposite failure modes Engage is an incredibly good fire emblem combat experience with a horrible misuse of its artist that failed to commit (also not a fan of the style visually for FE but it's mostly the failure to commit)

I don't really care about Cai and his squad and I don't think it's because they're written poorly, I feel like the game is keeping me from investment

I often like to say that Fallout New Vegas is a great game built out of mediocre parts that work really well together, and Fallout 4 is a good game that is less than the sum of its parts. Awakening is an example of great game, mediocre parts. FE18 is reminding me more of mid game, good parts.

i am only like 6 or 7 hours into Fortune's Weave but i legit don't think it's anhedonia this time. I really enjoyed Garreg Mach Monastery (at least for initial playthrough) but the amount of things stuffed into Fortune's Weave feels overwhelming but inconsequential and trivial.

i would tend to agree in general, but in the specific context of a society that seems to be regularly host to statutory rape, sexual harassment, physically coercive rape, and sexual coercion, and when there's a trend for the ultra rich to be making their *own* coercive fertility cults...

i shouldn't have used "oppositional defiance disorder" pejoratively, apologies being an evil contrarian bigoted fuck isn't a personality disorder and a lot of people with genuine ODD manage to not do that and also capital punishment is bullshit cruelty, to stay on point

Sunsette / Cynthia Skye @sunderedmarches.com · 01/10/2026
i figure you know the answer but someone has to say it: because they want to be cruel

This 33-year-old nurse told the FBI she knew she was “going to set him free” after border patrol agents brought in a man whose face was bloodied and seriously injured. She treated him and helped him escape, and she faces charges now. He got away, and they never relocated him.

There is absolutely nothing but cruelty accomplished with this execution reminder that capital punishment was slowly being phased out until the right wing had oppositional defiance disorder about SCOTUS trying to make it official

Yes Data is written as an ND human, more or less, and not really in any decent way as a machine that became a person Presence of emotions, drives, evolving preferences... always there. Just muted expression of those things. I have never liked Data, as I never liked being considered a robot.

I will admit I'm a little disappointed that I made this cool-looking character that's my aesthetic, with my favored weapon, and they immediately disappeared... but it's better than forcing them into stories where they just don't fit and I get a sense that the framing story was a late development

Sunsette / Cynthia Skye @sunderedmarches.com · 30/09/2026
It's nice to have a My Unit in Fire Emblem again. And damn I love the aesthetics. Byleth was an awkward cross with most of the negatives of Avatar and Lord and few of the positives, kind of like an inverse Robin who managed to sweetspot the good stuff. (Fortunately 3H was a great game anyway)

Blue has a long history as a useful tinting color, esp. in comics, yeah. Historically all the black-haired people are really blue-haired until pretty recently.

Oh, I just meant -- it's arguable imo if something with a very strong metallic sheen is ever truly white as opposed to a kind of gray. I wouldn't have blinked at Blue Eyes Silver Dragon, for example.
100
Sunsette / Cynthia Skye @sunderedmarches.com · 30/09/2026
yeah I figure it's probably derived from D&D's Bahamut and that it's always been metallic (I think it's still pretty clearly metallic in newer art) -- but even in the older art, "white" is a borderline call in English. (Japanese views blues slightly differently.)

it really bothers me that they call this "blue eyes white dragon" ALMOST EVERYTHING IS BLUE. A FEW HIGHLIGHTS ARE WHITE.
