They might be using transcritical CO2 refrigeration systems. The pressures involved with them are very high so they tend to be designed to keep the compressor and condenser coil in close proximity. The evaporator is then a CO2 to glycol block also located near the compressor.

Is the bathroom extraction fan actually working? That is generally the design of those hotel rooms. Stale air out of the bathroom, and fresh air in from under the door or supplied through ducting. Also Japan just does this better, the busy dining area at the hotel restaurant, Osaka Japan.
