I knew Faulkner was great when I read "The Sound and the Fury" and thought, "This is the kind of book I really would normally not like, and I found it a bit taxing to read. And even having read it, I still don't understand it much. And through all that, I thought it was pretty effing fantastic."

I completely agree with this (also unfortunately)

Part of the delusion is thinking they'll be allowed an honest chance of winning the next election at all, unfortunately

"Prison officials determined he was a suicide risk. Because of this he was assigned a roommate. But that roommate was transferred EARLIER THAT DAY and he had not assigned him a new one. Two staff members Thomas, were ultimately charged with falsifying records, but the charges were dropped." 👀👀👀

On one ✋: Even if Guhle gets you a better fwd, I think FLA proves you need a Guhle more than a Matheson for playoffs. Prob more value than difference between fwds you'd get in trade Other ✋: Guhle hasn't shown he can stay healthy. If you trade MM and then Guhle gets hurt, there's no depth Tricky

sub-$5M in a rising cap world will be average 3rd/good 4th line money in 3-4 years. No way this deal looks anything but good, IMO (and I'm a Habs fan)

Agreed! They'd be good 2C/3C complements. Maybe not good enough for a championship team but I don't think that's our realistic ambition for next year. This setup would work well for a presumably low cost

My question for a 2C: if (semi-big "if") Vegas will sign Marner but need to make some cap room, what is Karlsson's trade value? Is it a lot or minimal? Almost negative? I have no idea. If Habs have to give up little (B prospect & pick?), I can see them doing that and worrying about salary in a year

Thanks for that info! Really interesting. Looking forward to hearing the answer to your question. As an owner, I probably wouldn't let a dead man walking influence my draft picks, but I believe in Masai's integrity, so I could see why they would in his case.

Interesting! Hadn't heard that but I can believe that, too. Will be interesting to hear the fallout.

summerbookends.bsky.social @summerbookends.bsky.social · 27/06/2025
Yeah, I keep thinking the Habs won't find their 2C either way and are more likely to find a play-driving winger as UFA to help Dach in his 2C role. That said, they probably can't afford that UFA and Dobson from a $$ standpoint instead of asset standpoint, so who knows?! Will be exciting!

summerbookends.bsky.social @summerbookends.bsky.social · 27/06/2025
I wonder if there was a disagreement with Rogers at the draft about something, e.g. Rogers not signing off of $$$ for a player Masai wanted. Feels like the draft might have been a source of friction, which would explain the timing better

summerbookends.bsky.social @summerbookends.bsky.social · 26/06/2025
Agreed. Fits our needs and age/timeline perfectly!

summerbookends.bsky.social @summerbookends.bsky.social · 26/06/2025
Acknowledging that you say your move (well, all 9) aren't likely, but I think the reason I can't see Guhle go is he's the one dman we have that seems mean enough to play playoff hockey while still good enough to earn top 4 minutes. Andersson addresses some of that but I think KG does it better

summerbookends.bsky.social @summerbookends.bsky.social · 25/06/2025
Yeah, I don't know prospects well so wasn't sure if the guys likely available at 10 are worth it this year or not, though I had the hunch they would be. Maybe Mrtka, if we was available? A guy like that seems like more of a needle-mover than the guys we'd pick at 16 & 17, but again, I'm no expert!
100
summerbookends.bsky.social @summerbookends.bsky.social · 25/06/2025
Would you trade our two picks for #10? If not, what # pick would you realistically trade them for? Where moves the needle enough but is a realistic move? (What player is a question for another day!)

summerbookends.bsky.social @summerbookends.bsky.social · 24/06/2025
HOF process is inherently dumb. Players either deserve to be in or not; it should have nothing to do with there being a set # of inductees every year. E.g. We all know Price will get in, right? So why wait until a boner year with less sure-thing inductees? (and I agree Mogilny should be there)
010
summerbookends.bsky.social @summerbookends.bsky.social · 23/06/2025
Would be a perfect stopgap. Two years at a higher salary works just great for our timeline, if he'd take it!

summerbookends.bsky.social @summerbookends.bsky.social · 20/06/2025
I like the player but I agree his size likely makes him a no-go for the Habs. I'm also not sure the Stars re-sign Benn unless it's on an absolute sweetheart deal

The thing about the Price contract is that I don't feel like there really are cap floor teams, in the way there used to be. There are teams with some room but not like the old Coyotes that really kind of *needed* contracts and so were easier to trade with. I don't see Price's contract getting moved

I see chatter of packaging the two firsts and a prospect (Mailloux?) for a 2C. Think the Habs look at doing that, and if so, what players/teams might be targets?
100
summerbookends.bsky.social @summerbookends.bsky.social · 13/06/2025
Such a tough question. I see them trying to get someone at the draft but not finding what they like, then instead intentionally overpaying on a short deal (e.g. Duchene 1x$7M) and recalibrate next summer/at the deadline

Only league in the world that actively degrades its product when it has the most people watching (i.e. the playoffs)

Love this - and totally agree. I thought the Leafs tried that this year, getting a bunch of new blood. Didn't seem to be enough players... or not Millar enough! (and what a great player Millar was! And I'm a Jays fan!)

Think the Habs would look at Cole Reschny if availabe or are they going to focus more on bigger players?
000
summerbookends.bsky.social @summerbookends.bsky.social · 21/05/2025
Only thing I partially disagreed with is "many players would rather play just about anywhere else". While this is true, LOTS of players also want to play for their hometown Leafs (Tavares, etc), so Leafs have an advantage here - same for my Habs. Leafs fans can't cry poor about player options, IMO

summerbookends.bsky.social @summerbookends.bsky.social · 21/05/2025
As a Leaf-neutral (they're not my team, but go Canadian teams!), they've been an interesting study for years: they could go 82-0 and it would be, "That's fine, but will they win two rounds??" Having this change, like you say, will at least make next year more interesting and fun (1/2)

If the above isn't clear due to character count, your point is excellent. He got cratered. Not the work of what TSN & Sportsnet continually call one of the best defensive forwards in the game

I'm Leaf-ambivalent; not a fan or hater. But it's good commentary like this: "completely dominated by the Panthers, even though the Leafs went back to preferred matchup of Matthews line against Barkov" that drive non-Leaf fans nuts when we constantly read in the press about #34 being Selke-worthy

As a Canadian, I'll tell you it's because 11 of 12 would almost certainly vote Democrat, which is of no interest to him, of course. So one big state (with very low/no electoral power) works just great for him
