Emily @sumac.bsky.social · 07/10/2026For non-gamedev people - if you're modeling by hand, you have to really be fucking up for basic objects to come in far above 20k polygons. You can maaaaybe get to like 200k for a complex mesh, if you're working on high-end assets, but even when I go all-out I struggle to blow past 10k triangles. 1121
Emily @sumac.bsky.social · 26/09/2026Also saw a weird bug that looked like a partially-pupated tiger moth or something similar. It had two useless little wings, and legs along the front of its body, but it wasn't really great at moving. 040
Emily @sumac.bsky.social · 11/09/2026wife and I doing some dark souls coop mod, and I love that fromsoft just gives you the zweihander immediately after the tutorial 091
Emily @sumac.bsky.social · 27/08/2026I'll probably need to uproot most of these and replant them into their own things, but the basil seedlings are sprouting already! 020
Emily @sumac.bsky.social · 15/08/2026And here's the pocket mouse! For scale, the rat's body is around 25cm long not including tail, but the Desert Pocket Mouse here is a mere 7cm (with a 10cm tail!) You see them all over the deserts at night when stargazing and they're super cute (from a distance, they have diseases) #lowpoly 131
Emily @sumac.bsky.social · 15/08/2026Right now the texel density is too high for Poisoned Gravity, but here's my guy! Made him about a year ago for a more-realistic game where you can talk to him and feed him pizza just like IRL In poisoned gravity there's a whole colony of these guys, stowaways on a decade-long journey #rat #lowpoly 151
Emily @sumac.bsky.social · 15/08/2026Got the rough idea for the hallways set up in Blender. Still need to finalize the layout, build some cutouts for sparse greebling, and figure out what I want to do about corners. Drawing some inspiration from Alien obvs, Event Horizon, TNG, and my pediatrician from when I was 8. 051
Emily @sumac.bsky.social · 04/08/2026office supplies in microgravity mysterious pens... who can say what brand they are at this texture resolution. Modeled this after the shitty velcro setups they have on the ISS 072
Emily @sumac.bsky.social · 01/08/2026a nice evening in the desert, checking out the aftermath of those rainstorms we saw last weekend. 040
Emily @sumac.bsky.social · 27/07/2026Cool hike today along a ridge looking down into the anza borrego desert 040
Emily @sumac.bsky.social · 22/07/2026Don't remember if i posted the chair animated and textured or not, but here it is! #blender #lowpoly 0121
Emily @sumac.bsky.social · 16/07/2026kinda wanna get this embroidered on a hat, edited a stock image and added some text 061
Emily @sumac.bsky.social · 11/07/2026my software in christ that is like a hundred dollars worth of SSD space 160
Emily @sumac.bsky.social · 11/07/2026New PB for Cactus Canyon! Finally got that table down. Crazy how much better I am at pinball just having the pinone controller instead of a gamepad. It feels way more real but more than that, the buttons are a lot easier to feather the flippers with than like, shoulder buttons ever were. 000
Emily @sumac.bsky.social · 10/07/2026Pretty much done texturing and animating the sleep pod for my game Poisoned Gravity! Let the powerful hydraulic arm tuck you in securely for a good year's sleep :) #blender #gamedev #lowpoly 0151
Emily @sumac.bsky.social · 10/07/2026Spent a good 10 mins trying to figure out why I named an idle animation for a zero-g treadmill "Babette's Feast" p sure I must have had the wrong window active when I was looking for it on criterion channel a few months back and renamed it? who can say 070
Emily @sumac.bsky.social · 10/07/2026My favorite thing in DF is getting petitions for guilds and temples. I love making little themed buildings for each, decorating libraries, making dance floors, whatever! 020
Emily @sumac.bsky.social · 10/07/2026And you only really have to do minimal clean-up in Blender (Blender is better than any tool I've used at cross-seam blending and smudging), and occasional work in Aseprite if I need some more precise image work. 030
Emily @sumac.bsky.social · 10/07/2026The main reason I'm so into Texelizer right now is that it's one of the only tools that doesn't feel like it's fighting against me when I want to use a 256 texture. Even for a simple mesh like this one, it's a lot easier to be expressive when the tools are made to work at the resolutions you want. 130
Emily @sumac.bsky.social · 10/07/2026it's kinda funny how much harder it is doing UVs and texturing low texel density meshes compared to high-res stuff. Slapping down a stack of megascan layers and painting some masks is easier than making sure your UVs are pixel-perfect and hand painting details when every little pixel is so huge. 170
Emily @sumac.bsky.social · 07/07/2026Made a kirby ball decal for VPX too! First you set your ball decal to kirby Then you set the ball image to black Disable ball lighting And presto, it's Kirby! 072
Emily @sumac.bsky.social · 07/07/2026Couldn't find any glo-ball style ball images for VPX, so I turned a macro shot of a pinball on my desk into some glo ball-style textures for VPX. All the neon ones look best if you disable ball lighting! #pinball 000
Emily @sumac.bsky.social · 30/06/2026Ended up taking the soft side of some leftover adhesive velcro to dampen the solenoids and they're perfect now! Ok slightly too loud to use after dark, but not bad at all. Wife and I have been passing it back and forth this evening and having a blast with it. 010
Emily @sumac.bsky.social · 29/06/2026getting the pinone mini set up today, super-excited! solenoids are so loud... 160
Emily @sumac.bsky.social · 26/06/2026quick and dirty #lowpoly pineapple. Took way longer than I'd like to admit cuz i kept going back and forth over whether or not to cut more geo for the diamond pattern. 050
Emily @sumac.bsky.social · 25/06/2026I wish i had waited like 2 mins to post cuz I realized it looked a lot better with the lid ring filled in. 000
Emily @sumac.bsky.social · 25/06/2026Made a quick cooler for my game while Dwarf Fortress created a new world. Very excited to try out the dino update that just dropped! Really feel like I found a good workflow for texturing now, Texelizer was the missing piece. Getting my texture time down to a reasonable amount per mesh now. 140
Emily @sumac.bsky.social · 24/06/2026i think that's just a type of stylized giant chui, which itself is kind of just the Chinese word for any kind of like, mace or flail. There are some real crazy ones out there! I esp think meteor hammers are cool. 020
Emily @sumac.bsky.social · 22/06/2026i continue to be surprised at how the seltzers are like, the only Guy Fieri-branded thing that's good 010
Emily @sumac.bsky.social · 21/06/2026Trying out Texelizer on one of my older meshes for this project. Pretty cool how cohesive it can look for very little time investment! Baked AO and Curviture masks w/ manual adjustments, some palette color fill, smoothed noise for variation and it's pretty decent! Really good texture paint tool! 250
