Translation: we screwed up because of the stupidity and incompetence of Dear Leader and general absence of a spine within the admin and GOP, we are now stuck in a war that we started and can't get out of. So we will make taxpayers foot the bill for said incompetence and stupidity and lack of spine.

And that would be far more newsworthy compared to the word salad that they faithfully sanewashed for their readers prior to the ban.

I think this is a great idea, wonder why we don't do this? That, and the ability to recall an elected representative mid-term if they don't deliver on their promises.

Although the companies themselves are owned by the same billionaires that stand to benefit from the current behavior being justified in the name of access, so theres that as well. (2/2)

Good point about access. I think the media outlets that crave access and think that access equates to readership might find a bigger audience by fact checking and critically examining reports by those with access, i.e. switch from news reporting to investigative reporting. (1/2)

I feel you, and apologies on behalf of my country. We have certain political constraints that we hope to address this November. Agree with you and another poster who correctly mentions its *not only* the Epstein files, there's a long string of crimes that preceded it and cover-ups that followed it.

I agree with you except for the bias bit. It seems like his entire administration has been about committing crimes at scale, such that people are too exhausted to follow as they get distracted with each new crime. What you call a bias is a very clear pattern for most.

Not an Elon admirer, but she hit a switch which was presumably designed to turn the robot off, which it did. How is this a diss of Elon or otherwise? "His" robots are functioning as expected (and I am aware that he didn't invent / create them, just hired really bright people who did).

I think they need *us* to give them the additional seats in the House and Senate for them to be able to go beyond the strongly worded letter. I do wish they would be more feisty, and commend the ones that are, but we have to do our part before they can do theirs.

Since both Republican and Democrat politicians are funded by the Health Insurance lobby, I predict that neither would be particularly enthusiastic about doing anything good for the people that elected them that could potentially hurt the ones that funded them. Bigger roadblock than normie voters IMO

Dr Fauci's diary is not the flex Republicans thought it would be anyway, just confirms what most folks who lived through the pandemic knew to be true. Its another coverup for the Epstein files like Trump's war of choice with Iran. Infuriating that GOP smear so many good people to protect a bad one.

Upside is it could make us a more aware nation, knowing that we can no longer blissfully ignore the world around us and depend on basic safety thresholds in our food and water and having to keep track of the news for the recall/epidemic du jour. Maybe this awareness might extend to politics as well?

My understanding -- KY law forbids Gov to nominate replacement, only option special election (most likely elects an R). If he tries to nominate, guaranteed impeachment leading to losing D governor in red state. Best option is to play along with charade, one less R vote in Senate for remaining term.

Share your sentiments about Kegstand, but he's not the owner of the clusterfuck, just the implementer, the owner's the one thats trying to use the war to hide his involvement in the Epstein files. And while Sen. Ossoff's questioning is satisfying, its pointless if Kegstand still ends up getting $67B

This makes no sense, even given the low IQ driven incompetence of current admin. Only thing I can think of that might prompt this is that Bibi has the Epstein files and is finally calling in his chips. Might implicate him also, so risky move, desperate times calling for desperate measures perhaps?

They are afraid of a future where their customers switch to open-weight Chinese models which offers lower cost API access or can be self-hosted. These models are getting better and comparable to those these guys are putting out. Not very different from Tesla lobbying to keep BYD out of the US.

Same with Biden. One term of not having to constantly worry about the terrifying shit the administration would do today due to their stupidity, incompetence and vindictiveness. Difference is that Obama's term represented hope, Biden's represented renewal. But MAGA! thats why we cant have nice things

Congratulations to the entire Spanish team, who played way better than the Argentinian team. Very well deserved! But much respect to the Argentinian goalkeeper, whose saves resulted in Argentina losing by a respectable margin vs an abject defeat.

Paradoxically, it /is/ harder to form a coherent story around a constant stream of criminal events, ever increasing in magnitude, than an imaginary event that they get to build a story around for their stupid cult to rally around. So R has a definite advantage over D there.

I have always felt that atheism is a luxury afforded by a stable life, which is a byproduct of government that works for the people. When you can clearly see that your actions control your consequences, rationality prevails and divine intervention doesn't seem that necessary.

But the Strait of Hormuz would still have been open because a President Harris doesn't hate Obama and is not brain dead, and we would have been partially on our way to energy independence using green energy instead of backsliding 50-80 years into the past as we have done.

He is right, it is crazy that a House and Senate controlled by Republicans, and a Republican majority of partisan justices in the Supreme Court, is unable or unwilling to remove a President and an administration that is 100x corrupt compared to Nixon, and patently unfit as well.

Not a Maine voter but FWIW I feel that given a choice between Collins and Platner, I would choose Platner. There is a (less than 100%) possibility that he may pull a Fetterman on us once he is in the Senate, but with Collins its 100%. Its a no-brainer risk to take given the choice provided.

US Automakers are afraid of the competition from China so they lobby the US govt to protect them. Free market capitalism at work, just not in the way we think :-). However, if EU market is any indicator, price of Chinese EVs in US would be comparable, maybe slightly cheaper (and better quality).

So we would be happy if we could get it back to where President Obama left it ten years ago? So our dealmaker in chief started a war and gave us high gas prices (and soon anything transported) for something we already had and will probably never replicate now? Yay for the Art of the Deal, I guess?

Not that hard to believe. Its much easier to break stuff than to build. I predicted at the beginning of this presidency that we will regress (in terms of our global position, quality of life, etc) by at least 2-3 decades, based on its first term. Now it looks more like 1-2 generations.
