off white: the truth about antisemitism by rachel shabi yes i'm including non-fiction books too lol i read a lot of both. i'm only a few chapters in and this one's already proving helpful for missteps i've made in talking about this & better ways to approach the topic 👍🏻

revenge: murder in three parts by s.l. lim dude this book is brutal big cw child abuse for the quote image. it reminds me of a conversation i had with my editor, who indeed called my character nick 'cartoonishly evil' until i said his dialogue is pulled from real things men have said to me.

a magical girl retires by park seolyeon i like the print sizing (10 by 15) & that absolutely influenced my decision to buy it lol. australia we need small compact books!!!

i appreciate dropout doing content warnings in a way that's actually helpful for those of us with ptsd instead of just saying "warning: content may be upsetting if you're sensitive" like 90% of media companies. good stuff thank you!!!

a lot of the time when i'm writing these days i just say "urgh who would wanna read all this" and my editor aggressively raises her hand with a list of scenes to expand on

Sues Cummings @sueseh.bsky.social · 23/01/2025

oooh it looks promising i'll look into it more later!!!! thank you!!!!!! my main thing is wanting to sort documents together into one big document of that makes sense?? like all the chapters in separate documents but still bundled together easily

i've been considering swapping to new writing software but it's all expensive with a steep learning curve & poor cross-device syncing or expensive subscription service for a minimalist design without formatting so i guess i'll just continue to suffer through my nightmare combo of gdocs and ms word

The Transgender Law Centre works on supporting trans rights in areas like healthcare, employment, and immigration. They're trans-led and provide legal assistance, policy advocacy, public education. I've just donated and, if you can, I would recommend you do too <3 transgenderlawcenter.org/donate/

this is why i gave up on being a translator after my first translation project, my anxious brain is not made for this many decisions

030

Sues Cummings @sueseh.bsky.social · 04/12/2024

i didn't create a fantasy language but i have enough opinions about the linguistic attributes of it to get constantly caught in the weeds thinking about how the translation & localisation process would work

please always remember to be sentimental & genuine & open & vulnerable because this is the only way the change we want to see in this world to happen. cynicism & nihilism contends with the fate of pessimism & individualism, of this "us vs them" mentality. change only happens if we hope it can.
