welcome to part 7 of my experiments with film photography. This batch of photos were taken early in the summer with a new-to-me Pentax ZX-60, loaded with Kodak gold 400 film. The photos are from my early summer garden, where I've been having a spectacular year of growth and bloom.

Welcome to part 105 of my experiments with wet cyanotype. I started with setting up a print on cotton of bottlebrush buckeye leaves. Next I did a panel of oak leaf hydrangea, leather leaf viburnum, and Carolina allspice leaves. I also made prints on mineral paper with the same types of leaves.

Hello, and welcome to my occasional series where I try out different vintage film cameras and various types of 35mm film. For this set of pictures I used my Nikon N6006, one of my favorites for ease of use and quality of images. The film is Cinestill 400d. More on my blog, link in comments.

Hello and welcome to part 104 of my experiments with wet cyanotype. For this session I used leaves from columbine, brunnera, lamiastrum and cotinus. The first three are on cotton fabric. I then did four prints on 9 x 12 mineral paper. More on my blog, link in comments #fiberart #wetcyan

One of the fun parts of my artistic practice is making pinhole camera prints. They are incredible low-tech, consisting of photo paper sealed in a beer can, with a literal pinhole used as an aperture to let light in. . #pinholecamera #SummerSolstice2026

I am pleased to share with you my latest work, Mink and Sycamore. I am interested in the small mammals that make their homes near my suburban habitat in Pennsylvania. I enjoy catching glimpses of them and am saddened but also intrigued by their eventual demise and their skeletal remains. #quiltart

Welcome to part 103 of my experiments in wet cyanotype printmaking. I had an steamy hot day to work with, so rather than venture far I picked what was readily at hand-- some horribly invasive Japanese knotweed leaves and some lovely native boxelder twigs.

I was mesmerized today by this collection of Argentinian weavings at the Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh. They were made as a commission for the Carnegie International by a collective, referencing the Tewok River. A visit is recommended if you get the chance. #Silat #carnegieinternational

Every day is a new adventure. Today I spotted this gorgeous Conopholis americana, aka bear corn, a non-photosynthesizing parasitic plant that grows on the roots of oak and beech trees. It was my first time seeing one and it made my day. #conopholisamericana

Welcome to the 2026 season of printmaking! I am working with the ephemeral blossoms of my black cherry tree, using wet and traditional cyanotype processes. Flowers are difficult to capture, so I am happy with how these turned out. Process photos and info on my blog, link below #fiberart #wetcyan

It’s opening day in the backyard cyanotype printshop! It’s really tricky to make a print with tiny flowers like these chokecherry blossoms, and some of my chemicals are old. Will it be fabulous or a flop? Either way, I’m in my happy place 🥰 #cyanotype #wetcyan #botanicalprintmaking

Spent the late winter evenings basting a big batch these hexies, now I get the pleasure of arranging them into sets, then hand stitching them together. At some point they will be an integral part of an art quilt. The colors match the spring greens I’m seeing all around me. #artquilt #fiberart

Bought myself a cheap little board carder and am trying it out. I only use roving occasionally, as needlefelted accents on river panels, so I was getting along fine without one, but I would have done it sooner had I realized how much fun it is! #neeflefelting #fiberart #textileart #carding #artquilt

I am happy to share my latest work, Under the Flying Moon. This quilt references a colloquial name for the full moon of August, when fledgling birds leave the nest and take to the blue skies.

Today’s excitement—a mourning cloak and an eastern comma butterfly found along the trail. Both species can overwinter, which I always find astonishing, and emerge when spring arrives. Wish I had had a telephoto with me, but please enjoy the proof of their existence. #butterfly

Sunday Spotlight - White Mulberry, 2007. This small tree is native to China, where it is used to feed silkworms. Its edible berries are relished by birds, and it has escaped cultivation to spring up in the types of weedy, neglected areas I find so interesting.

I’m layering a large quilt prior to quilting it and wanted to share part of the process. What you are looking at here is the back of the quilt top, getting a final press. I use a wide variety of natural fiber fabrics, so I take the extra step of backing my patchwork with cotton muslin. #fiberart

Sunday Spotlight: In Dreams I Slept in a Cabin. I lived near the mighty Susquehanna River most of my life and it is the inspiration for much of my artwork. This piece stems from a dream where I lived a simple life in a cabin near the river, lulled to sleep each night by the sound of it flowing.

Happy Solstice! As is my practice, today I retrieved the pinhole cameras I mounted at the summer solstice, and hung up a new batch. It's an extremely low-tech operation, using a beer can with a single pinhole poked in it with a sheet of 5" x 7" black and white photo paper loaded inside.

Welcome to part 6 of my occasional experiments with film soup. This is a continuation of the same roll of 35mm Kodak gold that I shot in part 5, on my Olympus OM10. I souped it for about 24 hours with dish soap. I love a good pedestrian bridge, with all those struts and angles and shadows.

Welcome to part 99 featuring Spikenard, Aralia racemosa. It's a perennial that grows to shrub height in summer, with large coarse leaves, and spikes of inconspicuous flowers that mature to purple berries. I started with a print on cotton sateen, using cyanotype chemicals with a splash of Solarfast.

The first set of striking images were taken in a somewhat mundane place, the Waterfront shopping center in Homestead, PA, just outside of Pittsburgh. One of the reasons I love it here is that the mundane is often side-by-side with the transmundane; there are relics of the industrial age everywhere.

Preliminary design work on a project using the luscious woolens I brought back from Cloth Dublin (+ a bit of Harris tweed.) I thank my lucky stars I ended up as a fiber artist- the weight and texture of this cloth in my hands, and the slightly wooly smell when I steam press it is divine . #fiberart
