At the checkout in our local Morrisons. Couldn't help wondering - do they think Gillian Anderson's 'More' is a cook book??

Planting a tree provides shade, shelter, helps reduce water run-off and provides huge benefits for wildlife. Fruit trees are VAT free, but so-called 'ornamental trees' such as cherry, birch, sorbus and crab-apple carry VAT. Remove or reduce VAT on all trees.

So pleased to have spotted this. A Hummingbird Hawk-moth on Clerodendron bungei in our exotic garden. A delight.

Yes. I'm creating some software - just me and one agent and I am constantly having to hold it on track and pull it back from spawning unnecessary complexity. Boy can it code fast but it cannot stay focussed on the end game. I've had to continually remind it where we are and where we are going.

AI isn't going to kill humanity. AI is going to bring humanity's IT systems to a halt, because 'click to save' becomes 'prove you have authority, make it idempotent, re-check all the processes that ran before you got to the button, run 23 tests and then ask, are you sure, again. Then say no.

A stand, at last. No more pay-offs, deals, and crawling apologies. It's taken too long to grasp that appeasing Trump fails every time, but they're there now.

It's not surprising that these people feel entitled to express an opinion - entitlement is their default state. What is surprising is that some media outlets think we want to hear their opinion.

In essence, this is precisely what ChatGPT agreed was the biggest problem for mass AI take up, when I asked the question. Turns out that intelligence means correctly identifying the solution to a problem...

Biggest surprise coding with AI (it supplies the code, I copy and paste), is its extensive use of Terminal. Turns out those of us who didn't like being forced into using clunky UIs in the 1990's were right all along... It much prefers to run the engine with the bonnet open.

I had an exchange with ChatGPT earlier about truth and facts. I mentioned 'chicken soup cures measles'. 'Ha', it said, very funny'. I suggested it went looking... It's reaction was 'Good grief, I thought you'd made that up!' It was horrified that such nonsense might end up as reference material.

Car washes are an interesting example. At one point, most garages had auto car-washes. But the maintenance and the issues over car damage, given all the different sizes of cars, and roofracks, and aerials and all that, means there are very few now. But lots of hand-wash businesses.

Gardeners aren't paid well enough to replace with robots. And the task is complex: things move and grow and the weather and seasons change everything. Unlike cleaning a tiled floor, or writing a will...

Good therapy is mainly is reflection and validation, not advice. LLMs are very good at both. Yes, of course, a great therapist would be the ideal, but there aren't nearly enough and few can afford it anyway. If you're good at what you do, I'm sure your job is safe.

In general AI can already do most routine online tasks as well as a human, given an accurate brief.. The line that's harder to cross is the physical boundary. Repairing a leaking pipe under a bath. Shaving a door to make it fit. Choosing which branch to prune and where.

Think it'll struggle to weed a border or prune an elderly apple tree. I feel my work is safe. Not because it will never be able to, but because it will never be economically viable to create a machine to do it. The ability to do complex manual tasks will become revered...

That near-universal AI take up can't happen if the financial benefits accrue only to the richest few, because then most people won't be able to afford it. Or something to that effect.

I've noticed how easily AI agents abandon things, without attachment. Like a graphic they've produced, or a project plan idea. It's one reason I like developing with them - no need to pussy-foot around their ego or acknowledge creative output. I just say 'no that won't work' and we start again.
