My take is informed by decades of being immersed in teaching developer skills, coding pedagogy, and learning science, but I'm sure your vibes based one is equally legit.

I will obviously give this an actual UI of its own but here's a peek at some early progress on my vscode extension that helps someone learn about a codebase using a combo of static + dynamic analysis and language model queries exposed through the debugging flow

Why are people using Lovable ??

Please explain

I don't get why people pay huge amounts of money for Lovable and its tokens when you can do everything with VSCode and a $20 Claude sub??? I seriously don't get it haha. Yes, you get a few integrations that might save you time, but it's definitely not worth spending ten times more eventually...

So aye, the usual propaganda
- It's totally trivial today to take your knowledge and build it again, which wasn't possible in the past.
- Organization inertia can be real but it's also to hard to build infra that works for many use cases at a large company.

- It takes years to learn and ground ideas in products, then come up with patterns that will last for a long time.
- Once you have that insight and knowledge, building isn't that hard anymore.
- Because you can build from scratch, the final artifacts are free from baggage.

What I built this weekend isn't production grade and is a toy version, but a useful starting point. I am surprised with the quality of what's generated in the end because I didn't prompt in depth about design choices yet CC was able to give me some good recommendations.

On the viral tweet about claude generating in an hour what a team at google had apparently built in a year, the OP provided more context which.. of course it was a misrepresentation of what had actually happened
@rakyll

To cut through the noise on this topic, it's helpful to provide more more context:

- We have built several versions of this system last year. - There are tradeoffs and there hasn't been a clear winner.
- When prompted with the best ideas that survived, coding agents are able to go very far and generate a good decent toy version in an hour or so.

I saw folk talking about this on LinkedIn earlier and some saying it was made up, it is not lol Obviously this is total shite but it's making me wonder if it might be valuable to probe the idea that LLM assisted coding is an abstraction that uses natural language (English) as a high level language

I believe this new model in Claude Code is a glimpse of the future we're hurtling towards, maybe as soon as the first half of next year: software engineering is done.

Soon, we won't bother to check generated code, for the same reasons we don't check compiler output.

This makes me sad and makes me want to revisit the idea I made a half arsed version of on glitch where you remixed a project that was broken and had to fix it.. avoidance of debugging is avoidance of the learning that opens up opportunities through software […] [Original post on glasgow.social]

Debugging instantly drains my soul and I don't know how people used to survive it

I swear I lose all mental energy the second my code breaks. One error pops up and I'm already looking for snacks, distractions, a new career... anything except reading the stack trace. My attention span just packs its bags and leaves.

Why is the industry building Agents in IDEs?

Discussion

I think we should be focusing on fine tuned LLMs rather than IDEs and browsers to help us 'work'. If the Al overlords are aiming to replace coding languages with English, why bother investing in IDEs like cursor... sure they are useful, but are they really worth hyping up so much when eventually the need for IDEs, ie, developers is going to go away...

We might need some lessons about the concept of democratisation
r/lovable

Lovable cloud

Discussion

This is indeed a great addition... I wonder if lovable will ditch supabase anytime soon

And launch its own full fledged backend model

That would be super convenient and will practically democratise everything

Lovable cloud is just their own wrapper of Supabase.

Now with vendor lock in!
