Look at this! So nice. One embed option for ampwall.com/a/topsy-reco.... Now we need to step up the colors on the pages themselves to be more exciting.

We also use it for a very subtle effect on album pages. Here's a with and without screen for @amiintrouble.bsky.social. The dominant yellow color makes it easy to see here but most are more subtle. It makes the page feel just a bit more alive.

This is cool. @voidscanmusic.com posted this screenshot showing variations in @ampwall.com's embedded audio players using our new color extraction code. We're still tweaking it, wdyt?

I am here to tell you that @ampwall.com has an extremely nice new experience for adding items to your cart. Our embedded audio player got upgraded and soon (tomorrow?) they’ll be even better. Every album page is getting a small glowup. Mobile app launching imminently. Huge things on the horizon.

OH DAMN what's that? ampwall.com got a new look. @moire.bsky.social developed this concept months ago, inspired by walls in record shops. It offers a visually striking gateway into Ampwall. Artwork is distributed quasi-randomly and appears above and below the Ampwall logo. Love how it came out!

Hahahaha @whitneyformayor.com using bad AI smear ad against @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social is easily the most embarrassing shit I’ve seen this election cycle. Rank Zohran!

I asked "Data storage isn’t free and neither is running the platform. What would you recommend Ampwall do instead?" Got an angry rant and they disabled replies 😅 If someone's only concern is getting the most storage to share music while paying nothing, Ampwall won't be for them.

Woe is going on tour in June with our friends Obsidian Tongue. We haven’t done more than two consecutive US shows since 2018 (!) and it’ll be our first time back in many of these cities for 10-15 years. Cannot wait to hit the road again. We’re already planning another tour for later this year, too.

Don’t do things like this.
Guy spams me and pretends he wants to do a trade. “Hello, sorry for the strange question but do you have an active band? I own a merch company and would love trade for merch :)”Extreme lowball offer, almost $1000 below list, with patronizing offer to pay for shipping.

8. I almost forgot! Press Links. Every Music Release page has a dedicated area for external links to reviews, interviews, and announcements. This is born from a desire to help our achievements and work live longer than the social media algorithms are willing to offer their favor.

Chris Grigg @subvertallmedia.com · 19/12/2024
7. If all that isn't enough, there are good old fashioned hyperlinks in all of our multiline text areas. Every artist and user bio, every much item description, every album description and credits section. Screenshot from ampwall.com/a/witnesses/... once again cause I need to get back to coding.

Still not done. 6. Music and Merch pages can link to visual artists. These pages can be on- or off-Ampwall. SOON we are going to have a major update on this front, it will be an industry first for this kind of music platform and we couldn't be more excited. Here's ampwall.com/a/witnesses/...

5. ...and of course, each when you follow a link in a List back to a music release page, you'll notice that you can see what other Lists it exists in. Here are lists linked on ampwall.com/a/marecognit...

Want more? There's more. 4. User profiles show all their Lists. Each List links out to many music releases. @ykrecords.bsky.social has a few great lists but here's one of the best examples on all Ampwall: their collection of work spread across different Artist pages ampwall.com/u/ykrecords/....

One of my favorite pieces of TypeScript is woefully under-used in most projects: the ability to create mutually exclusive types. In this example, a form's types make it clear that the Create version will never have an id and its callback will never expect one but its Update version requires both!

Chris Grigg @subvertallmedia.com · 04/12/2024
Show me a more cursed and/or profound error message. "Type instantiation is excessively deep and possibly infinite" in TypeScript is easily my favorite. And by "favorite" I mean "hated", this is infuriating.

In our new Lists feature, we use our private REST API entirely where the public page side is concerned. TanStack Query, you beautiful bastard! This is a spot where we can't accept extra `revalidatePath` calls because we need the heavily-used public page experience to be as fast as possible.
110
Chris Grigg @subvertallmedia.com · 27/11/2024
But it's rough for some of the components, the Track list in particular. Prior to this feature, the Tracks section was the only part of the view that was aware of that data. It uses our private REST API for most CRUD and then manages its own state. The new footer forced MORE `revalidatePath`. ☠️
110
Chris Grigg @subvertallmedia.com · 27/11/2024
Then there's this lil guy. It's aware of data all over the page. While it is a client component, it all comes off of one big Server Component. Each section is independent for all intents and purposes, including this one.
110
Chris Grigg @subvertallmedia.com · 27/11/2024
The Track controls is its own monster: there are multiple pathways to uploading files, which is of course a potentially slow async operation that goes through multiple states of config, upload, processing. This is *mostly* REST API.
110
Chris Grigg @subvertallmedia.com · 27/11/2024
One spot where it gets challenging is when you have a BIG page with a lot of moving parts. This describes our Album Admin pages. It's a way-too-big page, multiple small forms with independent submit buttons. *Most* of these use Server Actions.

Finally, we land on 2023’s reimagining by @unknownrelic.com for “Legacies of Frailty”. To reflect the ferocious and feral intensity of the album, I asked for unhinged chaos, an almost deconstructed version, barely held together. Three inverted crosses for 3x Satan. It exceeded all my hopes.

Justin Miller www.hauntlove.com did cover art again for “Hope Attrition” and it’s my favorite of his Woe albums. The concept I gave him was (paraphrased) “smoke pours into the sky, a scene of all-encompassing despair that has a silent stillness.”

Our first album, 2017’s “Hope Attrition”, was a new era for the band: meaner, angrier, more focused, more aggressive, so I wanted a logo that captured this. Still identifiable as the same shape but with the fat trimmed away. Done by Ray Heflin.
110
Chris Grigg @subvertallmedia.com · 18/11/2024
The logo remained unchanged for album 3 “Withdrawal” (2013), which had a lot in common with album 2 thematically and sonically. This was another Justin Miller cover and I don’t think it ever got the appreciation it deserved.

In 2010, the second album “Quietly, Undramatically” saw only a slight alteration: the crescent moon was swapped out for an ouroboros with inverted cross. Sonically, the album was less “black metal” than the last and I wanted to reaffirm our connection to the darkness. Done once again by Justin.

For the first album, “A Spell for the Death of Man” (late 2007) I asked my friend and album artist Justin Miller to swap out the sigils for hourglasses to reflect the album’s focus on the passage of time and impermanence of all things.

The original logo was done in 2007 by an internet friend I lost touch with long ago. This is a auto-vectorization of the original hand-drawn logo and some details were lost. The sigils had some meaning that has since been forgotten. Used on the first demo only.
