I suppose Google (Alphabet) figured that as soon as they've sent you off to Wherever, your interaction with them and their ability to make money on you ends. I read that a while ago, they started enshittifying their search results so that you'd spend more time on Google instead of NotGoogle.

I saw that later, yes. FTR, the google app on my phone has been "tempting" me with AI BS on and off for a few months now and I hate it with a passion. I came upon an alternative to Google in Duckduckgo a while ago. It behaves similarly to how Google used to be but I've not yet made the switch.
