This album always sounded ahead of its time to me. The two-guitar interplay and guitar sound presages 90s indie, emo, and math-rock bands. On this album the guitars are nosier and wilder than the more jangly Thinking of Empire.

This reminds me of the album Directions in Music by Bundy K. Brown (also in Pullman), Doug Scharin, and James Warden. I didn’t know until recently the band name is actually Directions. Similar atmosphere, although Viewfinder feels more autumnal. This is more on the rock side. Both great albums!

Some photos from my reading of Lookout Cartridge. Every once in a while I like to seek out rare books/editions. This is the Knopf hardcover first edition. Incredible book, up there with the best of Pynchon in its orchestrated convolution. Also pictured: my oatstraw and chamomile tea.
