The first rule of advertising is nag. You piece of garbage. All you do is sit on your fat keister all day. While *some* of us scrounge the Internet. Looking for anything even remotely distracting. For *you*. Many more advertising gems are available in my online course. We start August 1. You in?

I've been using this kind of mistake to identify foreign-generated AI slop (low-effort ads and YouTube outrage shorts mainly). I did not expect to see this on multiple Canadian news site. Has @cdnpress.bsky.social changed their style guide recently? It's this valid?

I have people skills. I am good at dealing with people. Can't you understand that? What the hell is wrong with you people?
"The Bobs" from Office Space look on with interest.

Holy White Jesus, I'm glad to see AI eating itself.
Obvious AI-generated image of multiple copies of the same bearded, heavily and ornately armored warrior. One of these identical randos presumably must be Simon bar Kokhba.

Never forget that wherever "The Algorithm" exists it will feed you a steady diet of content that is topical, reinforces your sense of fear and anxiety and aligns with your beliefs. And right now the stupidest, laziest people on earth are saying, "OMG LOOK HERE!!" I mean, check out that fucking map!!
YouTube video thumbnail with a map that incorrectly labels Saudi Arabia as "UAE", the United Arab Emirates as "OMAN" and the coast of Oman as "STRAIT OF HORMUZ". It does correctly identify "IRAN". The title of the video is "What Happens If Trump Tries To Reopen The Strait of Hormuz Militarily" by "TRIGGERnometry Clips".

And the "circular firing squad" is a Canadian thing. Come up with your own damned analogy.
The reverse side of on older Canadian 50-dollar bill. It shows a moment from the RCMP "Musical Ride" equestrian display in which 32 RCMP riders in their famous red jacket and tan wide-brimmed hat perform an inward-facing ring formation with lances pointing nearly forward. Canadians often referred to this as a "[fill in the blank] firing squad" as an unfair, low-effort way to poke fun at the stupidity of a particular (usually regional) population.

Also, the reporting is lazy and cyclical. Remember, this is a WSJ story with anonymous source. And again, the story could likewise be true.
News sorry from Iran's Mehr Need Agency:

Iran targets US ‘Diego Garcia’ base with 2 ballistic missiles

TEHRAN, Mar. 21 (MNA) – A US media outlet has reported that Iran has targeted one of the most remote and strategic US military bases outside the country's borders with two ballistic missiles.Excerpt from CNN story titled, "Iran targets US-UK base in Indian Ocean with ballistic missiles"

How it started. How it's going. *Seven* God damned days later.
BBC headline and lede from seven days ago: "Trump accuses Starmer of seeking to 'join wars after we've already won.' US President Donald Trump has told the UK he does not need its aircraft carriers and accused Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer of seeking to "join wars after we've already won", as the US and Israel continue to launch strikes on Iran. In a social media post, Trump said the UK was "giving serious thought" to sending two aircraft carriers to the Middle East, before saying the US does not "need them". Downing Street has not responded.BBC headline and text in "Live Update" today. "Trump: Countries receiving oil through Strait of Hormuz must 'take care' of passage." "Donald Trump has posted on social media for a second time in the last few hours about the Strait of Hormuz -- the oil shipping channel through which 20% of the world's oil passes. Earlier, he called on a host of nations -- including the UK, France and China -- to join the US in sending warships to help secure the passage after threats from Iran to block it."

Know how there's faux-Chinese fonts for English? (Imagine some delivery place named Ho Lee Chow or whatever.) Thailand does that too for Japanese (and Korean). I read both Japanese and Thai (poorly) so you'd think a logo like this wouldn't murder my brain. Wrong. (It says เส้น ไหม not レらゆ 1れ゚み)
Photo of gyoza wrappers at the supermarket in Thailand. The logo is in Thai but in a faux-Japanese font that makes absolutely no sense in Japanese.

Memorable four-panel comic showing The Simpsons' Lionel Hutz editing a newspaper cutout. The comic has been updated to today's Venezuela attack.

Panel 1: Paper reads: Donald J Trump. Remember Iraq. No more foreign wars.
Panel 2: Hutz edits the paper with a red sharpie
Panel 3: Hutz holds out edited paper with prominent, red punctuation edits, that now says, "Remember Iraq? No, more foreign wars!"
Panel 4: Hutz reading the paper out loud.

Were the old red+ermine robes intended as a source of embarrassment for appellants? If you appealed your case to Federal Appeals Court, you get a very tasteful excoriation from justices in black & gold robes. After that you deal with the elves on a bench, which is a kind of shelf. Glad they changed!

You gotta be more charitable.
Fake WaPo headline reads: "The hard truth: Good journalism always hedges bets". Subhead reads: "And money hates uncertainty"

Facebook now looks just like an abandoned blog riddled by SQL-injection attacks. But the company that once powered Cambridge Analytica happily hosts this nightmare fuel. Effort & expense went into this and much more and I cannot imagine a reasonable explanation. For them or for Facebook's obeisance.

I guess getting a good seed is the key to getting the right answer. My first attempt (shown below) was correct, but regenerating the answer it thought 3307 was evenly divisible by 13.
Excerpt of a ChatGPT-4.o response. It lists all prime numbers less than the square root of 3307 and then sees if any of them are evenly divisible into 3307. It finds that none are, so it concludes 3307 is a prime number.

I know this looks like AI, but it's not. I took this photo on a back street in Tomari, Naha, Okinawa in 2013. This is by far the weirdest example I saw, but that island has lots of cats with the same phenotype: long hair, predominantly black with orange patches.
