Would be impossible to design the Caulfield transfer worse Having built elevated rail on the Dandenong corridor and later dug a trench at Neerim Rd, two opportunities arose to create a flyover so at least one of the inbound/outbound changeovers was on the connected middle island

Pretty ordinary PID’s from Metro Trains. No information about South Yarra bound trains.

“Passengers for East Pakenham or Cranbourne go to Platform 12 and change at South Yarra” @metrotrains Next train on Platform 12 is in 10 minutes. Cannot move. Completely empty Sandringham train promptly arrives on Platform 13 and leaves empty.

Strange planner. Cranbourne Trains don’t stop at South Yarra 🤔 @ptua.org.au

Feeling sorry for passengers wanting to get on at Malvern, Armadale, Toorak, Hawksburn and South Yarra

Better ichange experience at Caulfield, only 2min wait, but train chokers & people left behind I still don’t understand why city trains don’t depart from P2 for seamless interchange With free fares coming for April, things will only get worse #MoreServicesPlease

Train arrives at Caulfield Platform 4. Alight and wait 2 minutes for a Cranbourne service. Well mapped out, although this is the last shuttle so may as well have run it to Dandenong.

The trip home is better planed. Shuttles Richmond to Caulfield.

First real test of catching a train to footy with MM1. 10 min wait at Oakleigh. Arrive at Caulfield. Have to swap from Platform 3 to 1. Should run city bound Frankston trains on P2 given it’s off peak. Swap to Platform 1 and there’s a 12 min wait Not a good start @metrotrains

I just boarded a Bus and within a few stops was checked for my Myki card by PTV staff. Let there be more of that. Data gathered from Myki’s help justify increased services, which is better for everyone. Touch on. Always.

Cr Stuart James @stujames.com.au · 27/01/2026
I already have Myki’s for all my kids that I paid $10 for. Why can’t they be converted to (or swapped for) youth myki’s instead of having to pay for new ones? 😵‍💫

After five years of consultation and collaboration, the first two stages of our very first dedicated cycleway opens in Oakleigh today, linking the Djerring & Scotchman’s Creek Trails, in time for the holidays. Intersection due early next year. Dandenong to Scotchman in design.

Cr Stuart James @stujames.com.au · 22/11/2025
Pakenham passengers have to catch Frankston line and change at Caulfield. Train pulls up at Caulfield, doors open and the train we’re meant to change to literally departs. Now an 11 minute wait for the next one. This is how not to run a network.

Today I learnt that the Montreal Subway, with rubber wheeled trains, is the forth busiest in North America behind NYC, Mexico City and Toronto. Amazing given only 3 lines (yellow isn’t really a line).

Absolutely. The key is to have enough services to cope with demand. Something that isn’t the case right now.
010
Cr Stuart James @stujames.com.au · 22/06/2025
Clearly didn’t run enough. People being left behind at the platform.
000
Cr Stuart James @stujames.com.au · 22/06/2025
Can’t see fans going past and backtracking. People have caught trains to Richmond and walked up that path passed Punt Rd Oval for decades. People are creatures of habit. Even with a change at Caulfield (or Malvern) it will be significantly quicker than going in to the city and back out again.
100
Cr Stuart James @stujames.com.au · 22/06/2025
Why would football fans go to Town Hall? That would require a much longer walk, or a secondary mode of transport. Highly doubt it would be quicker, even with a change.

Cr Stuart James @stujames.com.au · 21/06/2025
Dandenong corridor passengers forced to change at Caulfield for CBD trains today. Carlton plays North Melbourne at the G (ONLY 40-50k crowd). By the time we reached Armadale passengers left on the platform. This will be the norm with #MM1 Better planning required by PTV & Metro #MoreServicesPlease

Welcome to @metrotrains We’re testing #MM1 so have closed Dandy between City & Caulfield Directly after the footy we’ll make passengers squeeze on to an incredibly narrow platform & wait 9 min for a Frankston train Don’t push there will be another 12 min after this one leaves

The calm before the storm. How lucky are we to have such a magnificent local pool? We almost didn’t. Council planned to shut this famous local institution 20 years ago, but it was saved by local residents and ratepayers in a massive community campaign. What are your favourite memories?

We've been making the point for a very long time, in many creative ways, that better mobility in cities is fundamentally about space. If everyone takes too much space trying to move around, no one moves well. Read this past article of mine in @planetizen.bsky.social www.planetizen.com/node/68574
Sydney Graphic: How do you move 1000 people to downtown? 1 train, 15 buses, or between 250-1000 cars requiring huge road space plays 1.37ha of parking space in the CBD.

Two days of 30 degrees followed by four days in the low 20’s is not “extreme heat”. This merely proves that our infrastructure is woefully inadequate. We must do better.

Men are starting to have the conversation about ending the national crisis of gender-based violence. We need to: talk to our friends, recognise the warning signs, challenging abusive behaviours, and listening to women/survivors without judgement or defensiveness. It all starts with respect!

The annual Westgate Street Christmas Party. 26 years and going strong. This is what community is all about: local residents (young and old) coming together to enjoy each others company. Always a pleasure to be invited along - a highlight of the year.

Isn’t it time we retrospectively fitted escalators to replace stairs at Parliament Station, particularly at the Lonsdale Street end? The Flagstaff Gardens side of Flagstaff Station is the only other CBD exit I can think of that still has stairs only.

Removing this level crossing would literally divide a community, say residents
In Newport, the government plans to remove the level crossing but not bury or raise the train line, instead leaving the road permanently closed.
