we just received our copy of Hustler's 50th anniversary hardback retrospective book. back in 1979, #DærickGrössSr did some political artwork for the magazine. you can see it on pages 102-103. it's NSFW enough we won't post it here (the whole book is VERY Hustler). Happy Birthday, #Hustler!

the cover is solid black with gold lettering, displaying the title as described above. the book rests on a plain white background.

see a Lady Death, post a Lady Death... ( #DærickGrössSr, Last Rites #2 variant, 2001 )
variant cover for Lady Death, Last Rites #2 from 2001, art by Dærick Gröss Sr. the art is entirely done in graphite, and appears to be in black and white.

Lady Death is the only figure in the image, posing seductively and shown from the knees up. the background is seemingly some kind of stone building or cathedral, with a pillar and wall behind her.

she is scantily clad in thigh high leather boots, shoulder-length leather gloves, a black leather g-string, and black leather bikini top with flares off the top. her hair is flowing artistically with swirly curls all around her.

at the bottom left is the logo for Chaos! Comics and the bottom right the insignia for chaosstore.com. the titling along the bottom reads: " Lady Death: Last Rites #2 of 4, Dec 2001, Variant Edition"

human artists, use one piece to convince people to follow you... (inspired by Josh's Bat, thought i'd share another...)
black and white illustration by Dærick Gröss. digital illustration of the comic book character Murciélaga, She-Bat. She is in an action pose, leaping toward the viewer in an extreme dynamic perspective, puncing forward with short battle staff in each hand.

she is wearing all black leather, with a loose belt at her hip, light knee-high boots with pads on the knees and pouches on her outer calves. she is wearing light gloves with pads on the knuckles, and buttons up the edge of the forearm-length cuff. beneath her chin you can see the bottom of her bat-shaped clasp for her cape. she wears a mask over most of her face, which splay off her into the shape of bat wings. her hair is dark and short, slightly curly. her cape is twisted all around her, swirling about, with sharply-pointed scallops along the entire edge. the inside of her cape is lighter, the outside is dark.

the background is just a simple black field with an angled rectangle of grey. the artist's insignia is in the bottom right corner with the year 2012.

some of you are too young to have experienced Marvel's experimental foray into digital comics back in the late 1990s, known as CyberComics. Dærick Gröss Sr was one of the primary artists working on the product line. some really great pieces that most people haven't seen before. #DærickGrössSr
splash page from a 1990s Marvel CyberComic featuring Spider-Man and the Hulk, by Dærick Gröss Sr. this image is a very tightly drawn pencil piece on comic book illustration board. the mrgins have markings and text to denote the dimensions and pertinent notations for the publisher. the art itself is a single large image in the center of the board depicting Hulk leaping across the city high above the rooftops with Spider-Man hanging on his back over his shoulders. the point of view is from above looking down, we can see the cityscape of buildings all from above behind the figures, the densely packed city of New York.

the artwork is very detailed as it was for Marvel's early digital comics product. the raw pencils were scanned in and acted as the finished "inks" so the color and letters could be added directly to the scanned art.

digging through some more of my late father's digital stuff and found this scan of an original portrait by Miles Teves he had hanging in his studio. circa 1982ish we miss you, Pop. #DærickGrössSr
scan of a graphite (pencil) portrait of Dærick Gröss Sr by Miles Teves, circa 1982. it is a simple portrait, no background, just the head and neck with a hint of a collar. Dærick Sr is looking forward at about a 3/4 angle to the right of the image, expressionless face in strong lighting from above. it is a very realistic rendering, not cartooned in any way.

image of the Muppet Newsman from the original Muppet Show series in the 1970s. he is sitting at his newsdesk with a red phone on the tight and his microphone on the left. he sits holding his news script while looking at the audience, seemingly tense and tired. his hiar is brown and messy, he wears thick glasses and has on a shirt and tie and a 70s plaid suit coat. the background is a beige wall with a pattern of placards each with a small world map on it.

snapshot of BlueSky account "I'm A Lectern" @notpodium.bsky.social reposting a Trumpy lampoon where the scene is set at a lectern. details of the cartoon (it is just a small screencap in this post) can be found here: https://bsky.app/profile/trumpy.studiogart.net/post/3ld3glnudkc2d

the initial post from I'm A Lectern reads: "Another Lectoon already! :) "
